Vintage “Jard & Ped" inscribed on the base of a piece of pottery. This signature is associated with Jard and Ped (Wilford and Nan) Dean, well-known folk potters from Cleveland, Georgia.
Wilford Dean (1930s-2018) and his wife, Nan Dean, were respected master potters known for their Southern-style folk art, including face jugs and grape motif pitchers.
Their work is considered highly collectible American folk art pottery.
Pieces often feature distinctive "tobacco spit" glazes and incised details.
The inscription "Jard & Ped" is a rare, hand-signed example of their work, as many pieces are simply signed "Wilford Dean" or "Nan Dean". It’s large pottery 18 1/2” t x 1’ wide. It has a few blemishes but great display. It’s a little brighter color in person.
