2. Four Antique collectible ST AUGUSTINE WARE YE OLDE ENGLISH MOTTO Dinner Plates. From the 1920s, each plate features an idyllic hand decorated image of an English cottage and river scene with cottage, pond, frogs, cows and rabbits. Charming motto around the rim (1) "Some sing the praises of Camembert And others of Fromage de Brie But neither compare with a welsh Rabbit rare For thats just the cheese for me"; (2) "Season me well with pepper and salt And just a pinch of mustard yellow An' don't forget the ale of malt For that's the juice that makes me mellow"; (1) If we can believe that Adam and Eve Were ousted for improper feedin' It's easier still this fact to believe There were no welsh Rabbits in Eden". Colors are green, brown and cream. Rare design. Marked on the reverse Ye Olde English. Diameter is approx. 9.75 inches and about 1 inch tall.
Condition of 3 of the plates is excellent with no chips or cracks. One plate (rabbits only) has a chip on the underside of the rim so it is not visible from the front. $1200 for the set of (4) dinner plates
