V1-R is a pure racing machine. Aerodynamic studies determined the shape of the frame while keeping an advantageous weight-to-performance ratio. The monocoque frame was developed in collaboration with Ferrari, which is why the Cavallino adorns the V1-R.
Detailed history
Colnago designs the V1-r with a view to satisfying cyclists who are attentive to the weight-performance ratio. This frame is the latest developed in collaboration with Ferrari, therefore the Prancing Horse logo is present on several parts of the frame, even in the "catalogue" version and not only on the CF10, the model with specific Ferrari livery made in two colour variants: red and yellow.
V1-r is one of the first frames on which important aerodynamic studies are undertaken. All the tubes, including the fork and rear stays, have sections designed in the wind tunnel to minimise drag. These are studies that will then be used and implemented on subsequent V2-r and V3Rs models. The profiles belong to the NACA family (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics), but have been optimised and adapted to the specific needs of use of this frame. With this approach, the rear brake was developed, which is located under the bottom-bracket shell instead of in the classic position. The brakes are of the “direct mount” type (direct mount) as far as Shimano is concerned, as they have a better structural and aerodynamic integration with the frame and fork. For the SRAM and Campagnolo groups, Colnago has developed its own brake, made available together with the frame.
The fork was newly designed, designed to support the integrated front brake calliper. The brake is thus more rigid, powerful and aerodynamic. The design of the sheaths takes up the shapes of the other pipes with truncated profiles. The base measures 1.1 / 4 ", while the top is 1.1 / 8". Precious detail is the tapered head in carbon fibre, on which the headset bearing rests directly. The design allows you to mount covers up to 28mm in section. The dropouts are made of aluminium. The declared weight is 395 grams.
The V1-r was produced in double version for classic rim brake and disc brake. The thru axle features the “Hexlock15” locking system, based on the proprietary Manitou design. To remove the wheel, simply open the quick release and rotate it 90 °. This system is both stiffer and faster to operate than the standard QR9 axis. Furthermore, it does not allow independent movement of the stems, improves the control of the bike during braking and the driving precision.
In order to maximise integration and aerodynamic cleanliness, a dedicated seatpost was designed for this frame. Using the forged aluminium head tested in previous models, Colnago proceeded to design and build a tube with a reduced diameter (about 27.2mm) to achieve high comfort. The aerodynamic profile (this too, like the seat tube, with a truncated profile) guarantees the fastest aerodynamic performance. The bottom bracket is of the “ThreadFit 82.5” type, a proprietary standard patented by Colnago. Compatible with all Pressfit 86.5 versions, the ThreadFit 82.5 added two new caps that can be easily removed in case of need. The larger sections of the V1-r tubes led Colnago to create the Threadfit 82.5, wider and stiffer than the Press-fit but with threaded caps to maintain reliability and practicality. Even the structure of the rear stays is
monocoque, including dropouts, which is a first for Colnago. This solution improves the comfort of the bicycle and save precious grams on the overall weight of the frame, which stops the needle balance at about 800 grams for a medium size.
Mild scuffing on mat finish which is common on these. Black auto wrap on top tube to protect. There are no cracks or scraps. Never dumped or wrecked.
Very good condition. It's been stored 5 years. Saddle and pedals not included.
