Inuit Soapstone Carving - $395 (Hingham)

make / manufacturer: Mark parkinson
size / dimensions: 12" x 7"
Exceptional example of Inuit soapstone carving by the late Canadian artist Mark Parkinson (1927-2010)
Mark's Inuit soapstone sculptures are on display at Buckingham Palace after presenting them to Queen Elizabeth in 1977.
I purchased this example directly from the artist in 1980.
Mark told me that he had worked in Northern Canada during the construction of the DEW line (Distant Early Warning)
During a blizzard, he observed an Inuit man & woman fighting their way through the storm's white-out condition, safely connected by a rope as not to become separated. Thus came his idea to recreate the scene in soapstone.
The carving measures 12" long by 7" high.
I am selling for a very fair $395. far below value.
Please, serious inquiries only.
Interested? Leave your name and a return tel. number.
I shall reply. thank you
