Long before the blues was ever written down, it was a flourishing art form passed on from one musician to the next in the oral tradition. Only many years later was it analyzed, notated on paper, and studied formally in schools.

For those who are not interested in reading music, I teach blues, boogie woogie, and Harlem Stride piano the old way, without reading music.

For some, reading is important. It is necessary in many professional situations, and it opens up a world of musical styles. If you can read music or would like to learn, I am delighted to work this way as well.

I graduated from the Berklee College of Music back in the '80s. I've been playing piano and other keyboards professionally all my life, traveling the world and working in pretty much every conceivable musical situation. I've found myself playing solo, accompanying singers, and in bands and orchestras of all sizes. I've played rock, jazz, theater music, circus music, church music, disco, and ballroom dance music. I've found myself working on ships, in concert halls, nightclubs, theaters, hotels, country clubs and recording studios from New York to LA, Copenhagen to Shanghai. Now I'm performing three nights a week at CodeX Bar, a 1920s style speakeasy in Nashua, NH. It's all been a joyous ride so far.

I will cater your lessons to your personal goals. I like sharing my musical experience with the next generation of players.

My teaching studio is in downtown Lowell, MA. Let me know if this sounds like it would be good for you.
