After completing my first cast iron lamp post, "The Beacon Hill", I decided I would offer a line of New England style cast iron lamp posts. This is my second of hopefully more to come. This is my "Newburyport" cast iron post.
Circa 1850's. I have found several of these lamp posts in various locations in Essex County, but they are best known and seen in downtown Newburyport, MA. Just like the "Beacon Hill" lamp post, this post is also scaled down in size to fit in a residential setting. Based on the originals, it has a sub-base with a flange that sits below ground. It does not require any concrete footing or anchor bolts, just dig a hole and drop the sub-base into the hole. The sub-base also has 2 cored openings for wiring or gas piping, just as the originals. Every detail is replicated in these posts. They are sand cast at a foundry here in New England just as the originals. Guaranteed to last a life time. Will definitely add curb appeal to your home. If your going to spend good money on an authentic lantern, it deserves to be mounted on an authentic cast iron post. Don't settle on a piece of granite or a cheap aluminum post. Pictures show an original post, and what the sub-base section looks like. Also, some close-ups of the detail. Also shown, are some pictures from the filming of Columbia Pictures remake of the film "Little Women", which were taken in the Town of Harvard, MA. I was quite thrilled that they purchased 6 of my lamp posts for this filming because they wanted lamp posts from the 1800's. I had to alter the base for the production as the picture shows with the 6 lamp posts.
