After searching the internet and trying to find a nice cast iron lamp post for my home, I found that England was the only place to find a cast iron post to fit a residential setting. Even those posts are not 100% cast iron, the columns are just piping or extruded metal. So being a patternmaker, I decided to make my own tooling to produce a cast iron lamp post. I purchased an original "Beacon Hill" type lamp post, circa 1860's. I then scaled down the original dimensions to a lamp post that would look nice in front of a home. It's total height is 7'-0" above ground, with the ladder rest. Replicating the lamp post to it's truest form, I duplicated the self burial section just like the original, so all you do is dig a hole and drop the sub-base into the ground. No need for concrete or anchor bolts. The bottom of the sub base has a flange just as the original to help setting it in place and prevents the lamp post from being pulled out of the ground. The sub-base also has 2 cored openings for the electric or gas piping, depending on what type of lantern is preferred. The base section above ground is fluted, the column is tapered and fluted as is the ladder rest. Every detail is as the original post. I have the parts cast at a foundry here in New England, using the same sand casting methods as the originals were made. Pictures show the original lamp post that was duplicated, the first sand mold and the first castings being poured. Also, 2 different lanterns shown on the lamp post, and 2 close-ups of the detail. You will not find anything available like this lamp post. Guaranteed to last a life time, just as the originals (unless hit by a car or truck!). If your going to install a beautiful lantern, it deserves a beautiful lamp post. Don't settle for a piece of granite or a cheap aluminum post that is not authentic to New England. Please call or email for more info or any questions you may have. I have a sample at my shop for viewing, truly awesome looking!
