Our pastry team is growing, and we are looking for an experienced baker to join our team. If you have pastry, bakery production, or significant food preparation experience and are interested in joining our team please send in your resume for consideration. Our focus at A&J King is the production of hand made from scratch breads and pastries baked fresh daily with ingredients sourced locally whenever possible. We mill our own whole grains so the opportunity to work with freshly milled grains is an added experience when working.

We operate two of our own cafes, participate in farmers markets, as well as provide pastries and breads to many wholesale customers in Boston and the North Shore area. We produce all our baked goods out of our 7,400 sqft. baking facility located in Salem, MA. We take great pride in what we do here and enjoy growing and maintaining a team of hard-working bakers that help to execute production each and every day.

Position details:

We are currently hiring for a croissant laminator position which involves laminating our croissant and kouign amann doughs, shaping various types of croissant product, as well as doing other bakery prep work from mixing batters and cookies doughs, to scone production, pastry cookery such as pastry cream, curd, jams, and more.

Shifts: Monday-Friday 10am - 6pm

Production positions are full-time consisting of five 8-hour shifts with occasional overtime. Applicants should have weekend availability for occasional coverage purposes. We maintain a static schedule with our staff so there is no ever changing weekly or monthly schedule other than during holiday periods and planning for vacation coverage.

Expected Equipment Usage:

-Use of rack ovens and convection ovens.

-Use of mixers from counter top kitchen aid on up to 80 qt Hobart Mixers and occasional use of a spiral kemper mixer.

- Use of multiple sheeters.

-Knives and other small wares


*Must be able to work independently.

*Be a team player.

*Be reliable and regularly attend shifts. Attendance is important. The nature of the work we do is very concrete on a daily basis.

*Be able to work in a fast paced environment with a sense of urgency and organization to complete all baking tasks on schedule.

*Have hands on professional cooking/food preparation experience. This is non-negotiable.

*Be able to multitask, prioritize, and problem solve.

*Previous bakery experience is highly encouraged, but not necessarily disqualifying if professional cooking is your only prerequisite. The baking experience does not need to be artisan style. We can train the right applicant.

NOTE: Home baking is amazing and wonderful but is NOT considered food service experience.

* Be excited and passionate about food.

* Be able to carry 50lbs, stand on their feet 8-10 hours in a potentially hot environment. Have endurance. Being a baker is a very physical job!

* Have hands and wrists capable of repetitive motions.

* Have a desire to work quickly.

* Be a friendly team player. No jerks.

* Be able to take constructive criticism and work to improve their craft.

Compensation ranges from $20.00-$23.00 per hour based the type of position being offered and based on experience of the applicant.
