We’ll deep clean your old vinyl records! - $5 (Marblehead)

After deep-cleaning a record, we put it in a new anti-static inner sleeve so it won’t get re-introduced into the dusty environment of its old sleeve. We'll also put the cover into a new protective outer sleeve for an extra 25 cents per record. (This is recommended for older records that have damaged or worn-out covers.)

Psychic Gnome is a small local business run by two brothers who are both as North Shore as a roast beef and seafood joint.
We charge a flat rate of $2/disc, which is $1 cheaper than the only other record-cleaning service in the Boston area (and they’re way out on I-90, past Framingham). There are also internet-based cleaning services which, besides making you go through the hassle of shipping the records yourself, charge ridiculous, sky-high prices (think $5-$12/disc!).
The companies try to justify these absurd prices by flaunting impressive-sounding bells and whistles that don’t actually provide better results. (A reviewer at What Hifi, the world’s leading audio consumer’s guide, compared three cleaning devices on the market and found zero perceptible difference between a $1,150 ultrasonic machine and the simple manual device that I use. Google "I tested 3 vinyl record cleaning systems" to see the article.)
So... let's say you want 35 records cleaned:
– Psychic Gnome: $70. Local pick-up/drop-off on the North Shore, super quick turnaround (usually next-day).
– The only other Boston-area service: $105. Plus all the gas it takes to get there and back (the store is a 100-mile round trip from Marblehead—and what's a gallon these days? $4.89??)
– Internet-based companies: $150-$360 (!!!!). And you'll have to ship them yourself. And then wait weeks to get them back.
So I hope you're beginning to see why Psychic Gnome Record Washing Service is the only logical choice for North Shore vinyl enthusiasts who want to restore their old records and make them fun to listen to again :)
