Who remembers Big John Belmonte? He was the original manager of Oldies but Goodies Land record shop in the heart of Boston’s now-defunct adult entertainment district known as the city’s “Combat Zone” at 681 Washington St.
A spectacular shop in every sense of the word, from the late sixties on John Belmonte ran the place like a total public creation and had the clout of customers to justify it. A true one of a kind for certain.
John later went on to manage Cheapo Records on Mass Ave. in Central Square Cambridge.
Big John and his partner Shorty compiled this price guide in 1975.
It includes 140 pictures of famous rhythm and blues stars!
The price guide is in like new condition, it has a phone number and name written on the cover, but very tight intact pages no tears.
