This brass bucket with a hand forged rat tail iron handle by H.W. Hayden was made in Asonia, CT in 1851 is an impressive specimen of early American metalworking. The bucket is handcrafted and features intricate details, including a patent number December 16, 1851. See photo. Its material is high-quality brass and measures 12 inches across the to and is 7 1/2 inches deep. I used it as a bucket for fireplace wood. It is in very good condition for its age.
