This is a part-time position in the wine department of a small independent store that also specializes in craft beer, spirits and specialty foods. For 50 years, the Wine & Cheese Cask has been providing the neighborhood, the Harvard community and out of state customers with personalized service and an extensive, curated selection of specialty beverages and food.

A typical day would be assisting customers in their wine selection, tasting wines for the store, stocking, taking in deliveries from distributors, answering phones and writing up special orders for customers, operating a POS system, helping out with other depts (cheese, beer, liquor) and carrying/wheeling cases of wine/beer out to customers' cars.
Although general wine knowledge is preferred, it is not required as on-the-job training will be provided. More important are your interpersonal skills, attitude and work ethic. Also required is an ability to lift 40 pound cases of wine on a frequent basis. This is a more physical job than people realize but we've found that people of all shapes and sizes can keep up with the physical demands. It's more a matter of being willing to always be in motion whether it's to stock shelves, carry cases for customers or help out in other departments.
For social skills, we're looking for someone who has good phone and email etiquette as well as in person. Someone who's welcoming and approachable. Someone who can deal with conflict and consistently enforce our ID policy.
The available shifts for this position are Saturdays Noon to 8, Tuesdays & Fridays 10 to 6. Preference will be given to applicants who have the flexibility to occasionally fill in on other days.
