A service year is a paid opportunity to develop real-world skills through hands-on service.
In exchange for a living stipend, you'll interact with middle school and high school students during school or in after school programs providing support in academics and socio-emotional health. Day-to-day responsibilities vary by program and by location, but may include mentoring and tutoring; organizing and managing after school programs; assisting with college and career exploration; helping with high school and college selection; coaching sports. All programs offer the opportunity to earn an education award that you can apply toward tuition or to student loan debt. Some also offer free coursework in college or preferred admissions to graduate school.
Whether you're figuring out what's next after high school or college, looking to gain skills and experience, searching for an opportunity to find a new path or just wanting a job change -- a service year may be just what you're looking for.
