This is a vintage classical Garcia nylon string . I put new strings on it and new tuning heads. The body is in great shape per pictures. This guitar has no major scratches or dings per pictures. This is a high quality nylon string guitar. Crafted in Japan . Frets and neck are excellent.Low string height action makes it easy to play. No buzzing. Great warm tone. OK to try it out in Danvers. No case is included.
This guitar is in good vintage condition, with some character building patina typical of a 50 year old guitar. Most notably a crack on the bottom side as noted in the last picture... But,.. plenty of good things about this guitar,... the top is flat, frets are good, not worn. Neck joint is firm. This has a smooth , warm sound from the aged wood.
There are not a lot of identifying markings on the guitar. The label states Garcia , Manufactured for G.M.C. Corporation. Japan. I did some research and found below info.
G.M.C. (Grossman Music Corp) was a wholesale mail order catalog company in Cleveland, Ohio that specialized in musical instruments. The company was founded back in the 1920s and still exists today through mergers and makes Grover products among other things.
In the early 1970s, Tokai made guitars that were sold through GMC.
The logo we tend to call the "script" logo was actually a logo developed for/by Grossman around 1970.
Garcia classical guitars from the 1960s and 1970s are well-regarded, vintage Japanese-made instruments often featuring solid spruce or cedar tops with rosewood back and sides. These high-quality, nylon-string guitars were produced in Japan, with various models known for their traditional Spanish design and craftsmanship.
