make / manufacturer: LAB Series / Gibson-Moog
model name / number: L5
This LAB Series L5 is the same model that B.B. King has toured with for decades - and with great reason: It’s an exceptional guitar amplifier.

Cosmetically, the amp has lots of hard-earned character. It’s criss-crossed the country many times. It’s been heard in countless nightclubs nationwide - and it shows. Its many dings and bruises are a tribute to its tank-like construction. This amp is an absolute workhorse and sounds as superb now as it did when it was originally purchased in 1978.

Made in the USA and designed in a collaboration between Norlin companies Gibson and Moog, it’s a vintage amp like no other. Some details:

It’s a phenomenally well-made solid-state, two-channel, 100-watt amp with spring reverb and two 12-inch speakers.

It has an effects loop for integrating external effects pedals.

Controls are as follows:

Channel 1: bright mode, volume, bass, midrange, treble.

Channel 2: bright mode, volume, bass, frequency, midrange, treble, multifilter, reverb.

Both Channels: compression, master volume.

Each channel has two inputs, for hi-gain pickups (top) and lo-gain pickups (bottom).

Sound Characteristics:

Clean and Loud: Channel one produces a loud and clean tone, reminiscent of a Fender Twin.

Tube-Like Tone: Remarkably, it captures a tube-like tone, even at low volumes. This sets it apart from most other solid-state amps.

Versatility: The L5 is versatile enough to handle a variety of genres. For example…

Jazz: Allan Holdsworth used the L5 for jazz.

Blues: B.B. King favored the L5.

Rock: Ty Tabor used an L5 on early King’s X records.

The L5 was designed by Bob Moog and Dan Pearce. It was distributed by Gibson in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The cabinet has robust, heavy-duty hardware, including highly durable, smooth-rolling polyurethane wheels for east mobility.

Dimensions:
Height: 23”
Width: 26”
Depth: 10”

Serial Number: 7913

This amp is an iconic gem with a rich history, a powerhouse capable of delivering impressive tones across many different musical styles.
