condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: Fairbanks by Vega
model name / number: Whyte Laydie No.2

Fairbanks Banjo made by The Vega Company Boston, Mass., Whyte Laydie Model No.2, circa 1912.

The pot features the famous Whyte Laydie tone ring and smooth interior with no visible bracket fasteners, along with a heavy, notched tension hoop and tubular arm rest.
The head seems like the original ~11" calfskin, and the scale length measures 27".
A small section of the celluloid tortoise trim has pulled away from the upper interior as shown, and there is a 3/16" hole in the head near the edge that does not seem to affect the tension or tone.

This banjo was stored for years with detuned nylon strings, and the neck had developed an even backbow.
It has since been re-strung with a light gauge steel string set, and has come forward a bit and plays fine up the fingerboard.
There is no visible twist and it seems like it could readily tolerate a medium or heavier string set if desired.

Includes a modern hardshell case.

Cash only please.
