Info from their website:
The S300 is a recreation of the 70s SVT preamp. Using three 12AX7 tubes at high voltage, this preamp is packed with powerful tone shaping capabilities. With outputs that can drive a power amp and a mixing board simultaneously, the S300 is the ideal preamp for any gig.
Later SVT designs added a master volume at the output of the preamp to enable fine tuning of the preamp gain. The S300 follows this principle, allowing you to balance the gain and volume settings for the right balance of tube harmonics and clean headroom. For authentic 70s SVT tones, set the master all the way up and use the gain to set the desired volume. This will provide the maximum clean headroom.
