I am looking ideally for a 2 to 2 1/2 bedroom apartment (entire apartment, *not* room), preferably in the Somerville/Cambridge area but I am open to other neighborhoods and also to an apartment that is slightly smaller or slightly larger. I am relatively flexible on the start time; ideally it would begin sometime this summer but it can start anytime from soon to late August. I am a gardener and would be very happy to work in or create a garden in the ground if I have permission to do so. At the top of this post, you can see some example photos of past gardens that I created with permission from areas that had been just turf or weeds; the photos are of various stages of creation. I was recently abroad doing graduate research as a mature student, completing an M.A. in history; I lived in a temporary situation for several months upon returning and now am in a leased place which hasn't worked out, so am looking to move to a new situation, ideally long-term.
I am fairly flexible on details; below, find lists of my strong preferences and additional preferences.
Strong preferences:
• On first/ground or second floor if building has no elevator; on higher floor if building has elevator
• Within-unit heating system (rather than a connected heating ventilation system that runs through the entire building)
• Either central air or ability & permission to install window air conditioning unit(s)
• Laundry on-site (whether in unit or in building)
• Permission to garden in the ground and/or somewhere to grow a few pots of plants outside in the summer (even if it is a small area)
Additional preferences:
• Within walking distance of a farmers’ market and a drug store
• Within walking distance of public transit (ideally a T stop but flexible)
• Outdoor space on-site with permission to use it - be it a porch, patio, garden, etc.
• Unit that gets sunlight in at least some of the rooms
• Little to no installed carpet
