About This Course
JVS is one of the largest nonprofit workforce development agencies in Boston. This Spring, JVS and Boston Children's Hospital will be offering a PAID Animal Care Technician Training Program. Upon successful completion of this training program, you will be considered for open Animal Care Tech positions at Boston Children's Hospital.

Program Overview:
• Training Start Date: Spring 2019
• Length of Training: 12 weeks
• Training Schedule: Mon to Fri between 7am - 5pm
• This is a PAID training program at a rate of $16.50/hour for 30-35 hours a week
• Students will prepare for the roles and responsibilities of an Animal Care Technician which includes: feeding and caring for welfare of animals, cleaning cages and equipment while also following strict safety protocols and guidelines

Students will build an understanding of the responsibilities required of an Animal Care Technician by learning:
• Workplace English
• Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Sanitization Verbs
• Hazard and Safety Regulations
• Hands-on job shadowing and training
• Professional Communication
• Professional Development

Job Placement Services:
• Upon successful completion of this training program, you will be considered for open Animal Care Tech positions at Boston Children's Hospital
• JVS will provide individualized job coaching throughout the training and up to 90 days post hire

Eligibility and Ideal Candidates:
• ONLY non-native English speakers are eligible to apply. This is not for fluent or native English speakers.
• Intermediate English Language Learners are highly encouraged to apply!
• Must have a desire to work as an Animal Care Technician
• Must not have preexisting allergies to animals, hay or dander. Facial hair is not permitted because technicians must wear protective equipment requiring a clean shaved face for proper safety fit
• Able to lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs., must be able to stand for 7-8 hours/day
• HS Diploma or equivalent is required, and must be 18+ years
• All applicants will be required to participate in a CORI, background and drug screening
• Potential candidates must commit to attend all classes
• Be a good listener who is also detail oriented
• Eager to seek growth opportunities and have a strong work ethic
