Own a true icon of modern design. This is a genuine Thonet No. 10 Bentwood Rocking Chair, often referred to by its German name, the Schaukelstuhl. This is not a modern replica; it is an authentic mid-century piece featuring the iconic "T2" mark and the burnt-in "THONET" signature.
This chair represents the historic transition of the Thonet brand. While the design is timeless, this specific piece was produced by Thonet Industries (the American-owned successor) and manufactured in Poland, as indicated by the original underside stamp.
Design & Materials
Frame: Classic steam-bent beechwood in a warm, blonde finish.
Cane: Original hand-woven "Viennese" cane seat and back. The caning is in remarkable condition—tight, with no breaks, holes, or sagging from use.
Construction: Exceptionally solid. The bentwood "scrolls" remain structurally sound and the rocker retains its original fluid motion.
Condition Notes
This piece is in "as-found," unrestored condition, which is highly preferred by collectors to preserve the original patina.
Cane: Excellent; no breaks or repairs.
Wood: Shows honest wear consistent with age. There are light stains and finish wear in high-contact areas (arms/rockers).
Integrity: There are some minor surface age-cracks (pictured), which are typical for bentwood of this era; they are cosmetic and do not affect the structural stability or safety of the chair.

Authentication
The chair is signed THONET and marked T2. It also bears the "Made in Poland" stamp on the underside of the seat frame. Correspondence with both Thonet (Germany) and the current holders of Thonet Industries (USA) confirms its authenticity as an original production of the Thonet Industries era.
