Neighborhood Paws is seeking a new member for our small, dedicated team of walkers and playgroup supervisors! We are looking for someone who could join us full-time once he/she is fully trained and has a good handle on the job. You must have a vehicle, a solid driving record, and a love of dogs. Applications without a resume and thoughtful response will not be considered. We are primarily looking for full-time folks, but open to part-time as well.
Important Information: We're definitely in need of help Monday and Thursday each week, but would love to find a hire who would be able to work full days Monday-Thursday each week, with potential for a light day on Fridays. Be sure to include your availability in your response.
Please see below for more information:
We believe socialization and stimulation are key ingredients in a dog's daily routine. Our playgroups, walks, and on leash field trips get dogs out of the house and active--physically and mentally. Our approach offers a good mix of running, training, playing, and lessons in good doggie citizenship. Our goal is to ensure that our canine clients are happy, healthy, and well-adjusted.
We are a small business serving the communities of Somerville and West Medford. The close connections we have to our clients and our community fuel our enthusiasm for the work we do. We are a close knit team, which means you, as an employee, will have plenty of one on one time with other staff and the owner of the business. You'll have the support of a great crew, and will never be lost in the shuffle or overwhelmed with huge car loads of dogs. Our employee must be available between the hours of 9:30 and 4:30 Monday-Friday.
Our hire will be given a mix of walks and playgroups. Playgroups involve picking up three dogs and bringing them to a local fenced-in dog park. Groups are at least 1 hour (plus pick-up and drop-off time), and require constant supervision and engagement with the dogs. As play group supervisors, we pay close attention to canine language and the subtle ways that our dogs express themselves in group settings. This is a hands-on job that keeps you on your toes. Our ideal hire would have an interest in learning about dog behavior and basic skills for working with dogs in a pack setting.
This is not a short-term position. We are looking for someone who can make a commitment of at least 6 months and who is ultimately interested in being a part of our growing business. Must love dogs and not mind dog slobber, hair and dirt. Be prepared to work in all weather conditions-- rain, snow, extreme heat and cold. Candidates also MUST have a reliable, insured car that is suitable for transporting multiple dogs who may occasionally be wet and muddy. Car requirement is non-negotiable. Previous experience with dogs a plus, but not required. Must live in Somerville or neighboring town and have a cell phone. This position requires someone who is energetic, friendly, reliable, and self-sufficient. Time management skills are essential. Please send a thorough email explaining your interest in the position and any relevant experience, along with a resume. Applicants will not be considered without a resume.
