This is a gorgeous pair of tested, fully functional, and great sounding classic Ohm Model L speakers, quality made in Brooklyn. These are in better shape than most of the Ohm inventory out here. The wood cabinets are superb, as well as the grills. No tears, rips, dents, or scratches.
When I got these,.. the original Ohm woofers were no good, so I upgraded them. Original OEM authentic vintage working replacement woofers are hard to get , and when you can get them, they are very expensive. You can order order them new from Ohm,..but they charge $250 apiece for them... and that does not make sense financially. ... So I took out the bad original woofers and replaced them with the one of the best sounding replacement woofers on the market. The GRS 8SMP-4. This is a brand new speaker design for GRS. They have a heavy, big magnet for deep bass. The magnet is an monster,.. almost as wide as the speaker itself. These woofers utilize a poly cone for accurate , distortion free sound reproduction. Better than the original paper cone. This is a 4 ohm woofer, just like the original. The specs of the GRS meet and exceed the original Ohm woofer specs. These woofers cost me $100 total with shipping,.. and they are well worth it. I compared these Ohm with another pair of Model L that I have with the original woofers, and these sound tighter and deeper. I realize that they are non original,.. and Ohm purists will not accept anything but original,...but realize that if you can find Ohm L with original woofers in this condition,.. the price will be significantly more. My price for these speakers reflects the non original woofers. Read below for a write up on this GRS woofer. If you ever have the need to replace a woofer, I highly recommend the GRS SMP series.
The GRS 8SMP-4 is a versatile 8" 4 ohm woofer designed for easy surface mounting and exceptional reliability. It features a damped poly cone and a rubber surround, which work together to produce natural and well-controlled sound output. Additionally, it includes a copper cap that minimizes inductance and distortion. The vented pole piece and aluminum voice-coil former enhance cooling, effectively reducing power compression. With its lightweight 2-layer coil, the 8SMP-4 is ideally suited for sealed enclosures and larger 3-way speaker systems making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade their older home audio setups.
Key Features

Copper cap in the motor lowers inductance and distortion for more accurate response
Low profile frame supports surface mounting for easy installation
Vented pole piece and aluminum voice coil former improve cooling to limit compression
Flexible enough for use in sealed or vented enclosures, great choice for 3-way designs
All drivers are fully functional and great sounding. These are 3 way, with 8" bass driver. Dimensions are 20 X12 X 10" deep. 29 Lbs each . This model was considered the sweet spot for ohm. Small in size, but big in sound.
The Ohm L is the most popular speaker Ohm has ever built. It was designed to have the deep bass of the popular Advent Loudspeaker in a much smaller cabinet by using optimal venting techniques. The low tweeter was the same as used in the much more expensive Ohm H and C2s. The high tweeter extended the treble beyond audibility. The system received rave reviews. Tens of thousands were sold in the late 1970s and are still providing high listening pleasure.
