The Cambridge Housing Authority seeks two qualified applicants for the above position. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Resident Services or his designee, the incumbent will be responsible for teaching 13-weeks for Work Readiness workshops for the This Way Ahead Retail Training Program (https://www.bewhatspossible.com/thiswayahead). The incumbents will teach classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-8:30 pm to 16-21 year-old youth, with about 18 students in each class. Responsibilities shall include:
1. Teaching four interactive and engaging 1.75 hour classes a week based on an already established curriculum;
2. Rating each student after every class and coaching students weekly to improve performance;
3. Meeting weekly with the Program Coordinator to discuss student progress and curriculum planning, and assisting with several volunteer events.
Although Program Coordinators are present to help in the class if necessary, teachers are expected to be able to teach effectively on their own.
The successful applicant will possess a relevant degree, coupled with demonstrable teaching experience. Bachelor's degree in teaching preferred. This professional must also possess skills which enable him/her to create and maintain effective working relationships with teens, peers, residents, and partners. Strong organizational and communication skills are necessary. Experience working with diverse populations is strongly preferred. Experience with work readiness curriculum a plus but not necessary.
This position is a part-time, seasonal position with a maximum of 188.5 billable hours (14.5 hours a week for up to 13 weeks) per teacher. Classes will run from 3:30 to 5 and from 6 to 7:30 pm on a Tuesday and Thursday schedule. The schedule for applicants would be from 2:30-8:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classes start in the beginning of March and run to the end of May.
