SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Engineering Design Workshop (EDW) Program Assistant will work alongside EDW staff and museum volunteers to facilitate design challenges engineering activities, Try Your Tech circuitry and programming activities, and technology investigations focusing on digital technology and computational thinking. The Program Assistant will support the program by readying materials and ensuring that the Engineering Design Workshop space and Tech Interpretation carts are well stocked and presentable to general museum audiences.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interact directly with museum visitors leading design activities in the Engineering Design Workshop and on carts throughout the Gordon Current Science and Technology Center
  • Demonstrate and guide volunteers and teen interns, helping train them in facilitating new activities
  • Develop techniques for facilitating activities and interpretations introducing technical concepts (engineering, computer science, and robotics) to diverse audiences using terms and models appropriate for a lay audience
  • Monitor materials and spaces and ensure that they are in good working order and ready to receive guests


WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is grant-funded, part-time, 7 hours per week, on Sundays from 9am-5pm. The role is funded through October 31, 2020.


REPORTS TO:

Manager, Staffed Exhibit Spaces


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to read, write, understand English; basic math
  • 6 months or more of relevant experience
  • Successfully completed a previous Summer Youth Internship at the Museum of Science
  • Demonstrated comfort introducing technical concepts to diverse audiences and different education levels
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a group setting as part of a multi-faceted team


STARTING SALARY:

Non-Exempt (Hourly).
