RTI International is seeking field staff for the Research and Evaluation Survey for the Public Education Campaign on Tobacco among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community (RESPECT). This important research study, sponsored by The Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), evaluates the effectiveness of a media campaign designed to reduce tobacco use among 18-24-year-olds within the LGBT community. Field staff will approach LGBT respondents and encourage them to complete a 5-minute screener on a tablet to determine their eligibility for participation in a full web survey. Assigned outreach locations will be limited primarily to local bars and nightclubs, but may also include community centers and events, all of which cater to the LGBT community. Field staff are responsible for assisting respondents to complete the screener and via a hand-held tablet and transmit this information to RTI each night. Some field staff may also be responsible for assisting RTI in the recruitment of local bars and nightclubs that cater to the LGBT community. Therefore, it is crucial that applicants have adequate knowledge of these establishments including which establishments and which nights/times are best suited for recruiting our target audience (18-24-year-old individuals who identify as LGBT).
POSITION TYPE AND DURATION:
This position is to be filled as a part-time. The data collection period will last for approximately 2-7 weeks between May and June 2019. We are looking for individuals who will be able to work on average, 3-4 nights a week, as work is available. Staff must have flexible availability to work on specified dates determined by the venue recruitment effort. Generally, hours are scheduled between 9pm and 2am (or later). Occasionally, there will be afternoon and early evening work as well. Hired staff who demonstrate excellence during this effort will be considered for work on any potential follow-up wave of this study.
Field Staff will be expected to attend an in–person paid training. Training is scheduled for one evening between 6-11pm. Attendance at training is mandatory. As some travel may be necessary to get to the training location, travel time and mileage is fully reimbursable. Trainees must successfully complete training and certification to continue employment on the project. In some cities, you may also be required to go to a bar or nightclub the same night as training. This will be communicated to you in advance, so you can make arrangements to be available. In addition to this face to face training, some field staff may be asked to participate in a telephone training with their Field Supervisor which will detail the project procedures for soliciting participation of local bars and nightclubs specifically catering to the LGBT community.
