David Jansheski: One of America's most accomplished contemporary printmakers, David Jansheski studied drawing and printmaking at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (1973 & 1975) and printmaking at the Cleveland Institute of Art (1974). His first published prints date from 1979 and since that time, David Jansheski has participated in group shows in Houston, Santa Fe, Denver and Los Angeles. Solo exhibitions of his art have taken place in San Francisco, Houston and Chicago. The artist currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
David Jansheski's printmaking techniques are as complex as his multi-dimensional imagery. "Riddle of the Fish II", for instance, is a combined woodcut and deep etching and aquatint where each colour is separately printed from either plates or blocks to create layers of form and tone. As well, David Jansheski has applied thin strips of chine colle which creates variations of hue within the image. Only a modern master of graphic art could create such a compelling work.
