The 4 mid-century canisters are an example of 20th century studio pottery by noted artist Denis Vibert of Pine Tree Kiln in Sullivan, Maine. The large canister has a top diameter of 7-1/8 inches and a bottom diameter of 7-5/8 inches with a height of 8-1/2 inches. The medium canister, which easily holds a 4lb bag of sugar, has a top diameter of 6 inches, a bottom diameter of 6-5/8 inches and a height of 7-1/4 inches. The smaller canister’s diameter is 5-3/8 at the top, 5-3/4 at the bottom with 5-7/8 inches height. The smallest canister was made separately by Vibert, but has an almost identical glaze that fits perfectly with the set of 3, adding an additional size: 4-3/4 inches height x 4-1/8 inches diameter. Denis Vibert (1919-2004) was a nationally recognized Eames era modernist whose pieces appeared in art shows across the country, including exhibits at the DeCordova Museum and the Worcester Museum in Massachusetts. One of his pieces traveled for a year with a Smithsonian show of contemporary pottery. Vibert’s pieces are highly collectible and hard to come by. Signed by the artist “Vibert Maine” on the base. Excellent vintage condition. Pick up in Brookline.
