Donsu is a textile with a pattern woven on a satin weave ground with a satin weave backing.Satin weave is one of the three major fabrics, consisting of at least five warp threads and five weft threads. The warp and weft yarns hardly float, and only the warp and weft yarns are visible on the surface. It is characterized by its high density and thick ground, but it is more supple and shiny than shakuhachi weave. In many cases, different colors of kneaded threads are used for the warp and weft, and the ground and pattern are woven out in five layers of satin. Together with gold brocade, which uses gold leaf and gold thread to weave patterns, it is considered a synonym for luxury fabrics. In addition to being used as a ceremonial obi, it is also used as a cloth for decorating temple furnishings, priests' clothes, hanging scrolls(Kakejiku),
