Music Therapist
PurposeFULL Living -- (40 hours)

For over 30 years, North Hill, a not-for-profit senior living community located in Needham, Massachusetts, has provided vibrant living opportunities to people 65+. We are looking for an experienced Music Therapist to work with residents across our campus; in Independent Living as well as Vista Terrace Enhanced Independent Living; Belmont House Memory Care and Pines Edge Health Center which are a small house model of service delivery.



The ideal candidate must have a broad background and a depth of understanding of working with aging adults. The qualified individual must be able to assist in planning, developing and implementing engagement programs for our residents. This candidate must have excellent computer skills to support the many aspects of program delivery. The PurposeFULL Music Therapist will work as part of a cross campus team.



Shift -- 40 hours - Exempt

Primarily weekdays with evening and weekend program support as well


Responsibilities Include:
Follow American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) standards of practice.

Maintain board certification by Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) and comply with continuing education requirements.

Report to the PurposeFULL Living Director, the Music Therapist is responsible for providing services to Residents of North Hill, a leading-edge Life-Care Community, which includes Independent and Enhanced Living, Skilled Nursing and Memory Care

Provide 1:1 music therapy sessions for Residents living in all communities at North Hill who have been assessed by the Music Therapist or referred by a Team Member

Creates the monthly schedule for each neighborhood (from this the weekly calendars and Touchtown slides are produced).
Plan and implement a well-organized Music Therapy program for groups to include cognitive, physical, social, and spiritual music-based activities for all levels and functions

Provide evening music therapy program(s) and an occasional weekend program

Support breakfast in Pines Edge & Vista Terrace as needed.

Maintain documentation, including resident participation (daily) progress (Quarterly) reports, assessments, individual and group sessions in a timely manner.

Communicate with family members and team members regarding treatment plans, sessions, scheduling, etc. as appropriate

Provide in-services for staff and families

Attend Team Member meetings

Be the liaison to colleges with Expressive Arts therapies programs, arrange internships and supervise interns at North Hill

Develop the music therapy program, policies, and procedures

Lead Music Therapy program development needs as they arise.

Must possess the ability to deal professionally and tactfully with Team Members, Residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.

Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the ability to calmly handle challenging situations and to maintain confidentiality

Ability to assess emergency situations



Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs in Independent Living, and Enhanced Independent Living, and make recommendations to the PurposeFULL Living team.

Share resources and skills with all communities at North Hill, as appropriate

Work closely with Team Members to support Residents and programs.

Submits function requests and coordinate activities with other departments.

Plan, participate and lead programs for Team Members with PurposeFULL Living team.

Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of PurposeFULL Living Assistant.

Required Education and Experience

College Degree in Music Therapy

Maintain board certification by Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) and comply with continuing education requirements.

Working with the elderly preferred.

Strong and varied computer skills a must with Microsoft word, desktop publishing, excel spreadsheets, ipads, etc.

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
