For sale vintage trunk. It is great grandmother's who came from Europe back either 1891 or 1893. So the trunk is about 130+ years young. Constructed of oak planks and tin metal with decorative engravings/ ornaments on the metal parts. All sides and corners also have metal bands/ strips for protection. The base has four smaller metal wheels. There used to be leather handles on each side to carry the trunk, although they are mostly gone. The flip open lid has a storage pocket with the latch. The cover for that pocket had been held in place by leather strip and now it is just laying at the bottom of the trunk. But the pocket still exists and functioning.... as a extra storage pocket. The lid has two metal clasps by the sides on the front and a metal latch in the front's middle. No key though. The oak planks and metal parts have developed some patina over the years. There are two wooden strips at each side (inside the trunk) where at one point these was sitting a removable wooden tray. Despite being over 100 years old the trunk is still sturdy. It's about three feet wide by about two feet in height and depth. The lid is dome shaped with intricate decoration on the metal/ tin. Only one nail that holds one of the base's strapping is lose. We didn't remove it to keep everything "in original shape". Once the lid is open there is a black and white photo in the middle of the inside. We don't know if it's a great grandmother or somebody else. The inside lining appears to be vintage wallpaper. The trunk has been sitting in the closet most of its life, except several moves from place to place and always in temperature controlled environment. Now we need a good portion of the closet, and it's time for it to go. Someone suggested the this could be a great coffee table, but the dome shaped top has only a few flat areas and everything will possibly be sliding off. So far we used it... and a regular blanket storage trunk, but you can find some other applications besides being a great conversational piece. Thank you for looking.
