I am quoting a review:
This box set, originally released in 1985, highlights Elvis' historic television appearances, a sampling of informal ("home") recordings and a concert from 1956. This is a fine collection, but one that may not appeal to the casual fan while a serious collector may already have a large portion of these tracks in their library. Much of this material has been released on "Sunrise", "The Complete Sun Sessions", "Home Recordings" and the DVD box set of the 1968 NBC TV special. The recordings that have not been widely available are the songs from his early television performances. Included are his appearances on The Dorsey Brothers, Milton Berle, Steve Allen and Ed Sullivan shows. You also get the two performances he did at the "Mississippi/Alabama Fair and Dairy Show" in September of 1956. The audio quality of these "Fair" songs is not very good. Because of the time frame of these recordings, all of the tracks are in monaural sound and many of them are transfers from disk or film. That said, the set is well worth having for the historical content alone. A little gem is the "TV Guide Interview" selection that adds to the material already released on "Legendary Performer Volume 3". In this excerpt, Elvis gives a rather heated response to questions about his religious background and how it may have influenced his music. The 31 page booklet is filled with interesting information on the recordings and includes lots of photos. Be advised that since this set is out of print, it may not always be available.
