No, it’s not the world’s oldest answering machine, but it’s pretty close. Made by Dictaphone in the 1960s, this thing was state-of-the-art business/personal equipment used to record messages when people called you and you weren’t home. Way before cell phones or voice messaging. It’s the perfect art deco conversation piece. It actually worked the last time I tested it. It uses reel-to-reel recording tape to record the messages and an endless loop cartridge(the precursor of 8-track) to record and play outgoing messages. It weighs about 22 pounds.
