Cape Cod Harbor Town - A Framed Original Gouache Painting on textured artist’s panel by Donn P. DeVita (American, 1931-2010) circa 1975.
Donn DeVita was born in Scarsdale, New York. The family moved to Connecticut where he attended Norwich Art School. He received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and his MA from Columbia University in New York. He moved to East Dennis on Cape Cod in 1965. Along with painting, silk screening, producing and framing hand-colored lithographs and running the former Worden Hall Art Gallery, Donn taught art for 25 years. His professional experience includes illustration for many well-known authors and publishers. In addition, his paintings earned him numerous commissions by discerning textile firms and interior designers, and his art has been acclaimed and exhibited throughout the world, winning numerous awards and prizes over the years.
The artwork here depicts a coastal landscape of a scenic New England waterside village, rendered in a tranquil, impressionistic style, with a playful mix of colors that dance throughout the prominent wooded area in the left foreground. His paintings capture the subtle interweaving of subject and background, adding a fluidity of movement with nuances of color, revealing a sensitive, unassuming and intimate experience for the viewer.
