This beautifully detailed Victorian-style brass bevel-edged mirror originally could be used as either a vanity/tabletop mirror, or hung on the wall. However, please note, this is missing the attached rear kickstand for table use, but still has the original rear hoop for wall hanging.
Often associated with the late Victorian or Art Nouveau eras, the cast brass frame features an ornate, Rococo or Baroque-inspired design, characterized by elaborate scrollwork, floral motifs, and 5 decorative faces or masks (sometimes referred to as "North Wind" faces or mascarons, or even Bacchus) integrated into the design.
Manufactured/crafted by the renowned P.E. Guerin company in New York, known for their exquisite brass castings since 1857. “P.E. GUERIN N.Y.” is stamped on the rear right side filigree, and the model “No. 298” is stamped on rear left side filigree, with a solid brass back plate over the mirror. P.E. Guerin pieces are highly collectible and sought after, and add Old World charm to any décor.
The ornate openwork solid brass frame gives a touch of elegance to the classic vintage style, making it more of an art piece. If you’re looking for a unique statement for your home, this would make a perfect addition. Don’t miss this chance to own a piece of fine American brasswork from one of the oldest decorative hardware makers in the country!
