For sale is a beautiful, large-scale Japanese blue and white porcelain charger in the Meiji Period style (1868–1912). These marking were used from 1960-2000. This piece is a classic example of Arita-Imari Sometsuke (underglaze blue) ware, crafted specifically for the international market during Japan's golden era of porcelain export.
Panel Decoration: The charger features a central floral medallion surrounded by eight alternating "panel" designs (karako style).
Motifs: The artwork includes traditional Japanese landscapes with mountain pavilions and botanical sprays of plum blossoms, bamboo, and pine.
Rim Details: It features a decorative scalloped (foliate) edge with a stylized "wave and cloud" border pattern.
Color: Rich, deep cobalt blue underglaze on a crisp white porcelain ground.
Markings & Provenance
Authentication: The reverse side bears a hand-painted underglaze blue script.
Signature: The inscription reads "Dai Nippon... Zo" (大日本... 造), translating to "Great Japan, Made by...".
