This rare find antique monochrome woodblock print is an original sumizuri-e (墨摺絵) (or early-stage print printed in black sumi ink), ca 1790s -1800s (but likely mounted in late 19 C).
This is a bijin-ga (picture of beautiful women) showing an elegant tall courtesan with two attendants under cherry blossoms, all in flowing robes. Signed by the legendary Utagawa Toyokuni (歌川豊国, 1769–1825). The calligraphy was done by 司馬亭(Shi Ba Tei).
Notice uneven minor browning/foxing, visible fibers and slight wrinkling, non-uniform tone on aged paper, and wear consistent with Edo-period originals.
Measurements: 14.5” x 17.5” (frame); 7” x 9.5” (art)
