A very fine Chinese late Qing dynasty ancestor gouache on paper portrait showing the wife of a First Rank senior official of the mid-to-late Qing Dynasty (roughly the 19th Century)
Great attention here has been paid to the intricate Chinese ornaments, including the ornate headdress, the juxtaposition of the various fabrics that make up her dress as well as the ornate Chinese rug below. The sleeves of the highly styled and richly ornated court dress are embroidered with five-clawed upright dragons (exclusive ritual privilege of a First Rank noble lady), symbols associated with the sitter's court status and social position.
Good overall antique condition, with minor tears and creases at the margin.
