And that’s where you come in. Each Trazzler trip is dominated by a photo that sets the scene so that your writing can tell the rest of the story.

How to Apply:
Since Trazzler is quite different from other travel sites, the best way that we have found to scout out new writers is to get a sample trip. Our ideal candidate would be someone who understands what makes Trazzler tick, can easily navigate the content creation tools (and let us know when something doesn't make sense or could be better), and—most important—has a unique and personal way of traveling to share with fellow Trazzlers. Take a look at our writing guide and other help docs if you have any questions.

Instructions:
1. Sign up, if you haven't already.
2. Click on "Write a Trip" at the top of the page (you must be signed in).
3. Write a trip about the place you would like to cover (shoot for 65-150 words).
4. Add the tag BOSfreelance to your trip.
5. Edit your bio to let us know what your area of expertise is and all the regions, countries, and cities that you want to write about (if there are any in addition to Boston).

Let's be up front: while you are free to submit as many sample trips as you would like, we won't be purchasing individual trips. You are free to republish anything that you submit to Trazzler or to submit previously published (copyright-friendly) material that is edited to fit Trazzler's style. We will be keeping track of all of the writers who apply and submit publishable trips to Trazzler.

We pay $250 for 10 trips (these are very short pieces—a trip should be between 65-150 words long).

Do you possess the rare skill of being able to dot every “i” and cross every “t” (not some, not most, but EVERY) in a document? Can you make sure that every comma, colon, dash, and semi-colon are in place? Can you ensure that each word is spelled correctly? Do you know when to use an en dash verses an em dash? Now ask yourself if you enjoy it enough to do it all day, every day?

Do you have an excellent grasp of the English language and of proofreader’s marks? Are you able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks and deadlines? If you answered “yes” to all of the above questions and you truly enjoy proofreading, please send us your resume.
As a proofreader in our marketing department, you will be responsible for maintaining the grammatical and punctuational integrity of our marketing collateral, conference materials, Web content, corporate forms, and more.

Freelance Copy Editor

The Corporate Marketing department develops strategies and creative executions in collateral, online, direct, and print advertising—as well as public relations—to build awareness and strengthen Commonwealth’s brand identity among our target audiences.

Do you enjoy tinkering with other peoples writing to help them communicate their ideas, thoughts, and concepts in a clear and engaging way? Do you keep the audience at front of mind, and are are you proactive in identifying potential issues? Do you ask smart questions. Are you willing to do a little digging to find the answers?
Do you also posses the rare skill of being able to dot every “i” and cross every “t” (not some, not most, but EVERY) in a document? Can you make sure that every comma, colon, dash, and semi-colon are in place? Can you ensure that each word is spelled correctly? Do you know when to use an en dash verses an em dash?

As a copy editor in our marketing department, you will be juggling a number of projects—often with competing deadlines. From magazine articles to conference materials, to corporate forms, web content, and more—with your help, not only will the writing be top-notch, but you’ll also be insuring that our materials are error-free. The ability to wear a copy editor hat and a proofreader hat at the same time is essential.

We know its a tall order. Not everyone is capable of being a “great” copy editor and proofreader. It demands a unique ability to be able to go line by line and character by character to make sure that a document is perfect. And we demand perfection! We don’t want an average or good individual for this position. You must be great—and beyond. If you think you’re more than up to the task, by all means, stand up and be counted!

By the way, there are a number of errors scattered throughout the above job description. Identify all of them correctly when you submit your resume, and you will be considered. Miss one, and you will not hear from us. If you cannot find any, please do not apply. Good luck!

The ideal candidate would also meet the following requirements:

Exceptional grasp of the English language
Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style, a plus
Excellent command of proofreader’s marks
4+ years of copyediting experience
Familiarity with and experience editing financial-related material

Comfortable working independently
Able to focus in a fast-paced and sometimes noisy environment

New Boston website looking for writers and photographers (Boston, MA)

If you are a writer or photographer who lives in and/or loves Boston, I invite you to contribute to a new website focused exclusively on life in the city. In fact, that's what it's called - "the Life of a City". You can see more at http://thelifeofacity.com.

My name is John A Keith. Four years ago, I created the Boston Real Estate Blog, which I owned and published until last year. During that time, it became the premier real estate and development site in Boston. While it was focused on real estate, it also covered such issues as politics, business, crime, health, and poverty. Also, outdoor urinals in London (long story).

Now I'm looking to create a new website, one focused on everything going on in the city, from the point of view of its residents, with content provided by writers and photographers who live, work, and play here.

I am looking for news stories 300-500 words long as well as photographs of anything and everything, as long as it's Boston-related. Sample photos are up on the site, as are a couple of placeholder news stories.

Are you a college student in Charlestown and know what's going on at Bunker Hill? That's a good story.
Are you a parent in Allston/Brighton and know what's up with BC and development? That's a good story.
Are you a community activist in the Fenway who just read all 8,000 emails to Michael Kineavy and found something interesting or controversial? That's a good story.
Living in the South End and know which restaurant just got shut down and why? That's a good story.

As long as your contribution is written well and contains facts and news, it's a good story.

Your contributions are yours to keep and post anywhere else you'd like - you hold and retain all rights.

What do I get? Content.
What do you get? Exposure.
What do Bostonians get? A website with news and information they need, that they can't get anywhere else.

We can discuss this at length, if interested.

Read more about what we're talking about, here: http://thelifeofacity.com/contributors/

The site will expand and grow and even change, over the coming months. In time, it will become one of the main go-to sites in the city. Then we can talk dollars.

Thank you.

John A Keith

Our new copy editor will be someone who’s able to work in a fast-paced environment, remain calm under pressure, and maintain consistency. A confidant self starter that is comfortable working on their own and doesn’t need a lot of handholding. If that sounds like you, please send us your resume.

Can handle multiple tasks and deadlines (and maintain 99.99% accuracy)
Comfortable working independently
Able to focus in a fast-paced and sometimes noisy environment
BS/BA in English, preferred
Flexible work schedule—this is a part-time position, but you may be called upon to work full-time, as needed

Travel Writer (Boston Area)

Trazzler helps would-be travelers answer the question “Where should I go?” This month, we are hiring a freelance writer in the Boston area to cover weekend getaways within driving distance of Boston, as well as urban destinations in Boston, Providence, Portland, and Hartford.

How to Apply
Since Trazzler is quite different from other travel sites, the best way that we have found to scout out new writers is to get a sample trip. Our ideal candidate would be someone who understands what makes Trazzler tick, can easily navigate the content creation tools (and let us know when something doesn't make sense or could be better), and—most important—has a unique and personal way of traveling to share with fellow Trazzlers. Take a look at our writing guide and other help docs if you have any questions.

Instructions:
1. Sign up at Trazzler if you haven't already.
2. Click on "Write a Trip" at the top of the page (you must be signed in).
3. Write a trip about the place you would like to cover (shoot for 65-150 words).
4. Add the tag BOSfreelance to your trip.
5. Edit your bio to let us know what your area of expertise is and all the regions, countries, and cities that you want to write about (if there are any in addition to New England).

While you are free to submit as many sample trips as you would like, we won't be purchasing individual trips. You are free to republish anything that you submit to Trazzler or to submit previously published (copyright-friendly) material that is edited to fit Trazzler's style. We will be keeping track of all of the writers who apply and submit publishable trips to Trazzler.
