Providing care, social and educational activities for orphans in SOS Children's Village Viet Tri

Volunteer project:
The SOS Children's Village is situated in the centre of Viet Tri City, the capital of Phu Tho Province. The first children moved into SOS Children's Village Viet Tri in 1999. There are now about 168 orphans living in 15 families under the care of the village mothers and staff. The orphans come from 5 different provinces in the north of Vietnam, and are at the ages between 1 and 18.

Volunteers will help planting vegetable inside the village, cleaning the area, organizing games and social activities for children, teaching English to the children and encouraging them to learn better. Volunteers will also join the families to get closer to the children�s life and try to build up wider horizon for the children.

Location: About 100 km north from Hanoi Capital.

Volunteer project: �For the future� is a welfare center for orphaned or disabled youths at the age from 14 to 25 years old. A team of international volunteers will help them in their daily job of making simple hand-made products. The volunteers will also organize leisure/social activities for them during their free time or at weekend. The volunteers are expected to create a friendly English-speaking environment to help the people learn and communicate in English, as well as feel confident. The volunteers will use local bus and/or second hand bicycles for their transport to and from the work site.

Special requirements: We are looking for volunteers who work well with disadvantaged people and who can provide patient and dedicated support. Volunteers will work in a different social and cultural environment and have to be flexible. They need also to be able to ride a bicycle in a city.

Volunteer project: In collaboration with a local voluntary organization and with the help of �Un Etai pour le Vietnam�, the international volunteers will help run a school for street children and children in a poor fishing village, located on the bank of Red river, in the outskirts of Hanoi. Volunteers will be responsible for cooking lunch for 25-30 children and teaching them basic things about their countries, health, etc. (with the help of the local volunteers). It is more important to keep the children in the school and help them behave as normal students. The volunteers will also organize some leisure activities for youth after school. This is indeed a time for cultural exchange and embracing the new relationships.

Special requirements: Volunteers should be prepared to live with children having social problems although they are very friendly. The volunteers will work in special social and cultural environment and have to be flexible. They are expected to be motivated and to participate actively in the running of the project. The volunteers will use local bus and/or second hand bicycles for their transportation and need to be able to ride a bicycle in a city.

It is a rural district located near the city of Mysore (Karnataka State) amongst a scenery of misty hills, lush forest, acres and acres of tea and coffee plantation, orange groves, undulating streets and breathtaking views. Volunteer projects here will focus on environmental protection, re-forestation, greening Asia projects, working along with different NGOs to spread health and hygiene awareness among the tribal villages, and working together for the local schools in teaching English, building playgrounds, and assisting various underprivileged schools. Currently, there are 571 students at the campus, who will have technical career once they finish their studies, or the opportunity to study more in a professional frame. With various cultural, sport, ecological, youth, and artistic activities, the school looks for the integral development of its students.

The volunteers will reforest diverse zones of the campus and visit schools of the town to speak about the importance of nature. There will also be some informal language workshops, and all the activities will include students from the Cecytem School.

Women aged 25 to 65: at-home HPV study (Compensation Available)

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON HPV RESEARCH GROUP

We are looking for female volunteers between the ages of 25 and 65 to participate in a study of HPV infections in women. Volunteers will be asked to collect vaginal samples at home for HPV testing and to complete questionnaires. No Pap tests or in-person visits.

Volunteers will receive the results of their HPV tests and $75 compensation.

This is a unique opportunity for type-specific HPV testing, which is not available commercially.

Volunteers must:
*be female
*be between the ages of 25 and 65
*be in general good health
*have had sex with men
*have used the internet to search for romantic partners in the past year (e.g. posted or responded to an ad on an internet dating website or social networking website)

Volunteers must NOT:
*be pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy in the next 6 months
*have had hysterectomies

Organizing sport events for the youth of Evora

The project is organized in cooperation with Clube Volei de �vora � �vora Volleyball Club, a non profit youth association aiming mainly at sport promoting.

The main aim of the international volunteer project is: sportive events promotion for Evora young people living in the area. The volunteer team will organize sportive animation addressed to children and young people of �vora, as well as cultural exchange experiences for all the participants.
