Have you come to a point where it seems like there is no gay world outside of ManHunt and the tired old clubs? Would you like to hang out with a group of fellow gay men that have no motives other than to socialize, laugh and fun? It may seem too good to be true, but alas... such a group really does exist!

Out & About was started over 2 years ago with just 5 people having coffee at Starbucks, and has since grown to a diverse group of roughly 30-35 gay men, ranging in age from 20s to 50s. We come from all different backgrounds, and geographically live from Portsmouth to Manchester to Boston and everywhere in between! The one thing we all have in common is our desire to have nothing but a great time when we come together.

I laugh all the time and Id consider myself a passionate person
I get on accessory kicks...for a while it was white jewelry, then it was loud sneakers, now it's hats.
I find TV boring, but love seeing films in the theater (I just about crap myself during every scary movie, but I watch them anyway)

The second good news is that I am unusually caring and sincere. I enjoy all the fun of a PURELY PLATONIC friendship but am also a very good listener and feel that supporting friends emotionally and treating them well is important.

The bad news is that I have also lost several good long-term friendships over the past few years; in each case, the individual has been the aggressor and treated me very badly. My efforts to retain the friendship failed. I attribute this to the highly frustrating wide-spread common trend that people think that very little personally or professionally is worth much effort these days.

I would like to develop new friendships, some of which I hope to become close PLATONIC ones. I keep in decent shape, do not smoke, eat reasonably well, and am a light drinker. I also have a master's degree and enjoy good conversation. I additionally have a nice sense of humor and maintain a good balance between active times and just watching a DVD.

I find myself alone a great deal during the holidays and would value having a PLATONIC friendship that becomes close enough in the next few weeks to spend a quiet Christmas together or with his family if that is an option and seems comfortable. One of my nicest Christmases in the past few years was spent eating Chinese food and going to a movie with friends.

A similar New Year's Eve would be a nice bonus.

I hate being more negative but have also found that many guys who respond to these ads make plans to meet and cancel at the last minute. I attribute much of this to them deciding that I will not be a BFF and to the general acceptance of a lack of consideration these days.

I do not understand why the possibility of a friendship is not worth having coffee for an hour and ask that anyone who thinks that he might enjoy a PLATONIC friendship but would consider such a last minute cancellation to please not bother responding. I do wish such guys sincere luck finding someone who they think is worth more effort than me.
