The Electrical Codes & Standards Specialist contributes to a broad spectrum of electrical safety engineering functions as those functions are reflected in the activities of various technical committees, technical inquiries, and external organization interests.
Responsibilities include:
(1) Technical Committees
Serves as staff liaison to technical committees working with technical committees such as the National Electrical Code Committee;
Assists in the writing, editing and processing of standards;
Coordinates with other staff with respect to references contained in other codes and standards.
(2) Technical Services
Confers with manufacturers, researchers, enforcement authorities and others to obtain pertinent information;
Studies literature and other sources of information to maintain familiarity with developments;
Provides verbal and written information and data to concerned persons within the scopes of assigned committees;
Assists in fire investigations conducted by the Association.
(3) Product/Member Services
Assists in the writing, editing and production of the NEC, the NEC Handbook and related documents and publications;
Authors and edits materials for NEC Digest and other Association publications;
Authors and edits materials for Continuing Education programs;
Instructs at NEC-related Continuing Education Seminars of the Association;
(4) External Liaison
Maintains liaison with federal, state, and local officials regarding regulations that affect electrical safety and the NEC;
Represents the Association's views on technical committees and other technical organizations;
Makes technical and education presentations to other organizations.
(5) Budgetary Criteria
Assists in the planning and preparation of budgets related to the responsibilities assigned above, including product costs and operating expenses;
Monitors and controls budget in a manner responsive to the Association's monthly financial reporting cycle; identifies changes, problems and discrepancies; reports changes, problems and discrepancies to the financial analysis group via the supervisor;
Maintains or improves budgeted levels of expenses;
As part of an Association-wide effort, identifies cost savings and profit improvements by recommending improved ways of product design, production, sale and distribution, as well as efficiencies in management and administration.
(6) Other Duties
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidate should possess a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, and a P.E. License is a plus or experience as an electrical inspector. Must have at least 10 years of relevant experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills a must along with proficient computer skills. Candidate must be willing to travel; assignment requires approximately 30% travel. Candidate should have knowledge of the National Electrical Codeฎ as well as a general working knowledge of NFPA codes and standards.
