Do you pull out your hair?

If so, you might be interested in the Family Genetics Study of Trichotillomania and Chronic Hair Pulling.

Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital are conducting a research study to learn more about the influence of family factors in the development and maintenance of Trichotillomania and chronic hair pulling. You may be eligible if you are between 13-65 years of age and frequently pull out your hair.

We are enrolling individuals 13-65 years of age who have been diagnosed with Trichotillomania, or have chronic hair pulling, and their first-degree relatives (parents, children, and siblings). Family members do not need to have a history of hair pulling in order to take part.
Participation consists of a one-time visit divided into 3 parts:
-	An interview
-	Self-report questionnaires (filled out prior to your visit)
-	DNA (blood or saliva) sample to be collected upon your visit

Study participation is strictly voluntary and may require 2-4 hours per person. Upon completion of all study tasks, each participant will be paid $50 for his/her participation.

If you are interested in learning more about this study, and would like to find out if you are eligible, please contact Amanda at (617)-726-7963 or aaallen@partners.org.

Become a Co-Facilitator for a Parent Support Group in Gardner (Gardner)

Parents Helping Parents: Empowering parents to nurture children and prevent child abuse.

Parents Helping Parents, a network of support groups for parents who want to improve relationships with their children, needs a volunteer to act as a group facilitator for a parent support group in the Gardner area. Parents come to a support group seeking encouragement and feedback on parenting-related issues. Free child care is provided whenever possible.

Shared leadership, trust, respect, responsibility, and positive parenting are the key components of a successful support group. The group provides a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment for creating positive, caring peer relationships. Our approach is preventative- once the emotional support of the parent has been strengthened, a parent is better able to actively guide and nurture the family.

As a co-facilitator, you would help guide the discussion, suggest referrals to other services, and provide assistance when needed. Volunteers must commit 2 hours per week for at least one year. Orientation, training, and ongoing supervision are provided. You will learn counseling techniques and crisis support methods.
