PART-TIME JUNIOR GRAPHIC DESIGNER:

General Overview:

We are seeking a high energy, creative individual with scheduling flexibility to join our Creative Design team in a part-time basis. The Jr. Graphic Designer will work under direction to implement and produce design and layout for select products, packaging, marketing collaterals, merchandising, and customer presentations, with a cross-departmental in-house team by performing the following duties:

Primary Creative Development Responsibilities:

1. Works in a cross-functional team to ensure timely delivery of the finished product. This requires basic process and design project management skills and a working knowledge of project scope, budget, and schedules to assist in completing projects in a timely manner. Teams are members of Design, Licensing, Editorial and Prepress.
2. Ability to translate concepts into effective visual presentations, products, collaterals, and merchandising that fulfill market objectives.
3. Responsible for image research.
4. Strong understanding of design and typographic elements.
5. Solid understanding of print pre-production and file preparation.
6. Collaborate with copywriter on copy style to create an idea that unifies visual and verbal communication in a complete concept.
7. Provide both verbal and written creative direction to both internal (Licensing, Marketing, Sales, etc.) and external (Artists, Agents, Photographers, Customers etc.) resources.
8. Ability to create mechanicals within Product Development process.
9. Basic understanding of market, competitive and design trends that are directly translated into the entire product development cycle and able to take direction in this regard.
10. Approve design layouts, and press PDFs or bluelines relative to the creative function, under the supervision of other designers.
11. Create tight mockups of three-dimensional product for high-level presentation.
12. Will assist the Production Artist with other tasks as necessary.

Secondary Creative Process Development Responsibilities:

1. Basic ability to forecast project requirements and anticipate potential problems and proposed solutions, and a good understanding of maintaining multi-project progression and inter-departmental communication.
2. Proactive in obtaining information and materials required to completed the project.
3. Working knowledge of pre-press and/or 4-color printing including color and file preparation to achieve the desire outcome for the product.

Job Requirements:

1. B.A. or B.F.A. from an accredited design institution and 1-2 years of related experience in the graphic design/communications field.
2. Solid understanding of QuarkExpress, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and basic knowledge Microsoft Office.
3. Must know MAC system.
4. Must have problem-solving and strong organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and great communication skills.
5. Able to work independently with some supervision.
6. Understanding of 4-color printing and working knowledge of pre-press.
7. A strong design portfolio and references.
8. Must be a team player.
9. Understanding of web design principles a plus.
10. Background in product development or publishing a plus.
11. Experience with creating 3d prototypes and mockups from scratch a plus.
12. Ability to think in 3 dimensions (translating 2d concepts into 3d products) a plus.
