I would want someone to come down and sit with me for a couple hours and go through the program with me entering in various information in different categories, and also look at reports (rent, gas, tax deductibles, income receivables etc.)
Currently I only have a Trial Version of MS Money. I am looking to pay and download a copy off of the internet, or purchase a copy from Ebay.

• You’ve got coding chops that could manage conversion of VB6 and C++ apps to a cross-platform model (pc/mac) – and then spec a direction for the future. PHP/MySQL too….

• You might be a reasonable person to manage a small business with (i.e. not some crazy abstract perfectionist who doesn’t understand the value of the need to ship). This should evolve into a business partnership. Obviously, I need to meet similar criteria for you….

• You’re not in the immediate Boston vicinity – I know that’s old fashioned– but for this type of relationship I want someone I can meet, see, trust etc.

The part time question?:
• It seems that this might fit a part time role for someone with the right background skills and sufficient time – especially given near-term income parameters. There would need recognition that this would migrate to full time if/when the work/income was there.
External IT Management Needs:
- installation and management of Linux servers co-located at a local data center, mostly using Red Hat or Debian
- maintenance (patching, security improvements) of approximately 12 existing non-virtualized LAMP servers and 1 Windows 2000 server
- support of data security implementations, including but not limited to firewalls and encryption
- for a select few servers, ensuring the security and access complies with HIPAA
- compilation of a limited number of obscure libraries and modules, particularly Xalan and Xerces
- monitoring of servers and response to pre-defined hardware and software issues
- coordination with 3rd party administrators who may initially remain involved in certain monitoring / maintenance tasks
- future installaiton of blade servers with more virtualization planned
Internal IT Management Needs:
- Windows 2007 server
- Generic router
- 14 Windows XP client machines, mostly running Microsoft Office and 4 running Adobe creative suites
- 5 printers
- coordination with 3rd party system administrator to assist with maitenance of VPN to a remote location
Other requirements
- Ability and willing to take responsibility for deployments
- Driven less by generating billings and more by creating value for us and our clients
- Ability to proactively and periodically review existing server configurations, recommend and (upon approval) implement security and performance improvements
- You should not be currently employed full time and should be able to respond in a timely manner to urgent issues during business hours
- Willingness to provide 5 references for which you have worked in the preceding 2 years
- Willingness to submit to a background check if we consider you
- Willingness to provide a proposal that states:
> hourly rate for standard / after hours work
> ability to provide service for the abovementioned needs and requirements
> if you cannot provide any service requested above or fulfill a requirement, please explain why and present an alternative
Desired Support Terms:
- Monthly retainer to include ongoing monitoring as well as approximately 40 hours of IT support per month, pre-paid that can be banked and used in future months
- Preferably 1 hr, but no more than 4 hour turnaround time in emergencies during business hours
- 4 hour turnaround time in emergencies after hours
