Role and Responsibilities
The Vice President of Engineering is a full member of the JAZD executive team and reports directly to the CEO. The Vice President drives the technical infrastructure on which the business is run, and manages the technology team, platform development and engineering budget. This person is an enthusiastic technologist, with web 2.0 development leadership experiences and a proven business leader with a track-record of delivering projects on-time, a knack for translating business requirements into technology, and a strong desire to interact with all other areas of the business to make sure the technology continually meets the needs of our customers and end-users.
This role is fully responsible for the implementation and management of all directory platform and office operations technical activities at JAZD. Key areas of responsibility include:
• Platform Implementation – The JAZD Marketing as a Service platform is a multi-tenant Java-based application that supports the JAZD business model. Engineering is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the platform to meet the needs of the business.
• Platform Architecture – Oversee, manage and improve the systems architecture of the platform and its extension via the integration of third party software, data and application programming interfaces.
• Production Environment – The platform and associated non-platform websites (blogs, static websites, etc.) are hosted in a secure data center which must be monitored and managed on a regular basis.
• Office IT Infrastructure – Engineering oversees office infrastructure including phones, wirings, corporate email, servers and desktops.
• Engineering and QA Management – All individual members of the team of engineers and IT professionals report directly to the VP of Engineering. Work scheduling and project management is the responsibility of the VP of Engineering. Current team size is 5 (2 IT, 3 Development).
• Platform Support – Support customers, end-users and the rest of the business with technical support on the effective use of the platform or in other areas where technology plays a role, including the rollout of additional marketplaces, training the rest of the business on platform use, or providing technical support in the day-to-day use of the platform.
Required Skills and Experience
• A solid track record of leading development teams to successful project deliveries to meet critical business needs using solid engineering and QA processes and best practices to assure quality and expected functionality.
• Executive management skills: experience working at the executive level, managing to departmental budgets and interacting with non-engineering executives.
• Leadership and management skills: the ability to provide clear direction for all team members and align that message with the needs of the business.
• Systems and software architecture skills: take over and lead the expansion of the system architecture of the JAZD platform.
• Project management skills: the ability to accurately estimate projects and deliver them on time.
• Java experience: the current platform is implemented in Java.
• Quality leadership: experience overseeing and managing QA teams, generating test plans and guaranteeing the quality of a code-base.

Development of UI components, widgets and "site-lets" to be used in the construction of partner websites.
Development of generic/white-label UI's that accommodate easy re-branding and re-skinning.
Mentoring and technical leadership of a team of onshore and offshore Web UI Developers.
Interacting with the sales and consulting teams where appropriate to help win new customers and make existing customers successful with the software.
Requirements:
Must have 5+ years of experience developing RIA and Web UI's, at least 2 with Web 2.0 technologies.
- Deep experience with Javascript, AJAX, HTML, CSS as used in the construction of rich, dynamic websites.
Must have served as a Technical Lead on several Web UI Development projects.
Experience building a site with one or more modern Java Web UI Frameworks like
