The Dirty Mac Blues Band Come Home For Christmas to The Notorious R & R Five Star Dive Bar

You are in some down and dirty bar. It smells like old beer and bathroom disinfectant. The decor looks the same as it did when Truman was President. The crowd looks like it goes from 18 to 80 in age. They say they don't much care for blues music but what is happening on stage is getting them very excited. The singer is singing about the virtues of whipped cream and maple syrup and hitting it from behind. At times she's sounding like Etta James or Koko Taylor or Big Mama Thornton; all singers that inspired Janis Joplin. Other times she is sounding like she just left church after singing lead in the choir. The bass and drums move along like a rock steady locomotive playing electrified delta blues. The harp player is playing notes so thick and dirty it's scary. The guitar is raw and primitive. A juke joint in the 50's in Clarksdale, Mississippi? Helena, Arkansas? Or even Chicago, Illinois? No this is in a bar outside of Boston Massachusetts. The year is 2009. And the Band? The band is called The Dirty Mac Blues Band.

Universities and other higher educational institutions should encourage both Nook & Kindle, says Geoff Hasler, CEO @ MyFreeMedicine.com, LLC.

In a discussion scheduled for February with the new student user group at Tufts University, Boston, Hasler will explain his dilemma �

To buy a Kindle or a Nook, that is the question.

At first, he loved the Kindle � the concept, its sleek design, the ease and simplicity of downloading national and international newspapers & magazines on a daily basis in seconds and its ongoing cost (much less than buying paper versions of the downloads).

He was about to buy a Kindle especially after the international version was released that enabled users to use the Kindle while outside the U.S.

His pro-Kindle friends said � �why have you not bought it yet�?

Well, before Geoff Hasler purchased, the Nook arrived.

The first thing that grabs you about the Nook, Hasler says, is the color on the front interface. Is it a color screen or just on the front interface? No-one at Barnes & Noble could answer this question.

Apart from this, the products look almost identical.

Apparently the Nook enables more usage as you can buy more memory. Also you can loan or borrow titles with other Nook owners.

But the Nook is not yet international, it seems. This is a drawback if you travel frequently.

We�ll keep you posted on Geoff Hasler�s current dilemma.

UPDATE

Nook Beta users say that a HUGE advantage of Nook is that you can borrow/loan your stored titles with other Nook friends/users. So if your friends share your book & other publication interests, you can send downloads back & forth between each other.

For voracious readers, Nook enables you to store more titles simply by buying more memory.

Apparently, Kindle does not offer either benefit.

For example, one of my friends has been pleading with me recently to read all the Austrian economists� books. So far, I have not bought them.

If we both had a Nook, he could just send them to me � in 60 seconds. No more excuses for your friends that you have not been to the bookstore yet!

UPDATE 2

As of now (11/08), to me, the Nook seems to have the edge.

Here�s why.

First, the color touch screen makes the Nook look better. The color touch screen runs along the bottom of the unit, and each color application is similar to the IPhone applications. IPhone users will feel right at home.

However Nook still has two drawbacks �

It�s harder to see a Nook than a Kindle, if that�s possible. Amazon suggests that you contact a current user and meet them to see a Kindle, a very cumbersome procedure.

However the first Nooks have not even shipped yet and won�t be in Barnes & Noble stores until after Thanksgiving.

Also remember that Nook does not permit you to download internationally, a major drawback for frequent overseas travelers.

Overall, however, I love the Nook color touch screen more than the boring, black & white Kindle.

To me this is more important than the international download ability of Kindle (that Nook will probably fix soon), so right now if I was to decide, I�d opt for the Nook.

We�re interested in taking a bit different of an approach to church and we�d like to extend an invitation for you and those you know to come join us!

North Shore Community Baptist Church in Beverly, MA is continuing to host their 3rd Service (there are two services on Sunday morning and the 3rd service is on Sunday night) on December 20th, 2009 at 5pm as the �3rd Service� is scheduled on the 3rd Sunday of every month.

This service is designed to be an alternative-type service and is meant to be enjoyed by individuals of all different intellectual capacities.
 For those who do not tend to respond to the typical church service structure and approach, this service is at least worth a shot.
 For those who enjoy interactive media, music, and meaningful, enjoyable discussion you will fit right in.
 For those who have developmentally disabled family members or friends this would be a great opportunity for you and for them.
 For those involved in residential programming, this would be a great opportunity for a monthly event.

The service starts with a buffet-style dinner and then runs for about an hour and fifteen minutes. You can expect a casual/open/free/friendly atmosphere, prayer, interesting teachings and discussions based on Bible about God and life in general, open discussion, music, various types of visual media, opportunities for involvement, and more.

�Fur Ball� to be Held October 17, 2009

Festivities begin at 6:00 p.m.

What:
The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society (MRFRS) will hold its Fur Ball on
Saturday, October 17, 2009. Event features a silent auction beginning at 6:00
p.m., followed by a live auction at 8:00 p.m. with Julie Devereaux from 105.7
WROR. Other festivities include live music by Mark Watson, a benefit raffle, cash
bar, and buffet with foods donated by Cabot Creamery, Cedar�s Mediterranean
Foods, Alden Merrill, Prides Crossing Confections, and others. Coined the �Fur
Ball� this is an MRFRS annual event that welcomes any attire.
All proceeds from the Fur Ball go to local cats and kittens in need.
When:
Saturday, October 17, 2009 � 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Tickets:
$20 in advance or $25 at the door. $18 for senior citizens. Tables of 10 can be
reserved for $200.
Tickets are available online at www.mrfrs.org or at Village Pet, PetSmart in
Danvers, and MRFRS headquarters in Salisbury.
