150th Anniversary Cottages & Historic Buildings Tour at Asbury Grove,
South Hamilton, MA
Entrance at intersection of Asbury and Highland Streets
Saturday, July 18, 2009, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. All welcome.
Cottage owners will open their doors to visitors for the first summer cottage tour at Asbury Grove. Started as tents, the cottages evolved over time, adding kitchens, heat, and bathrooms. Many include original gingerbread detailing and are cheerily painted. The tour will also include the historic community buildings at Asbury Grove, including the Bates Library, Dining Hall, Chapel, dormitories, Swedish Tabernacle, memorabilia-filled Coffee Shop, and Arts & Crafts cottage.
$10 suggested donation per adult, $5 for children under 10. Maximum family cost $25. Ticket includes a day pass to swim in the outdoor pool.
Registration and maps will be available at the Asbury Grove Coffee Shop. Golf-cart transportation between sites will be available. All profits go to support the 150th Anniversary events. Tours happen rain or shine.
Afternoon tea! Between 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. one of the cottages will offer an afternoon tea break featuring tea cakes and proper loose-leaf tea. At 6:30 p.m., Asbury Grove will hold a pie social with many varieties of home-made pie á la mode, followed at 7:30 p.m. by a Grove tradition, the hilarious “Pig in a Poke” auction, where only the auctioneer knows what’s in the brown paper bag you’re bidding on. All proceeds go to support the Asbury Grove Boosters Club. Tickets available at the Coffee Shop.
