About The Teacher

My name is Colin Cannon. I've been working independently as a professional music teacher, musician, and composer for over 8 years. I'm currently based in Boston where I contribute to local music education, and to the local music/arts scene. I'm currently teaching guitar at all levels, ages, and styles, and music theory at elementary levels, graduate school levels, and everywhere in between.

About Lessons
My lessons are generally relaxed and friendly. I believe your hope to please and not disappoint yourself and your teacher is the best motivator, not stress and certainly not fear...

Lessons are geared toward reaching goals set by YOU (not me) starting at your first lesson. During the process of reaching such goals, we will also work on you're fundamental knowledge of the guitar (technique, scales, chords, positioning, Reading etc.) and music in general... (If you insist on not learning to read music you should not contact me). My students typically work well with this style of teaching, and say they enjoy lessons; this is why most people I teach keep coming back.

Where are lessons held?

Lessons are typically held at my teaching studio in Allston, MA ( In Allston Village, also close to Brookline/Coolidge area). The location is easily accessible by T (subway), Bus and Car. Parking is reasonable in the area. The neighborhood is safe and nice enough. Before our first lesson I'll email you the exact address with detailed directions.

How much do lessons cost?

If you pay for each lesson individually the fees are as follows:

Half hour lessons are $30,
Hour lessons (between 50 and 60 minutes) are $40

If you pay in advance (a "block" of 4 or more lessons) the fees are as follows:

4 one half hour lessons are $100 (saving you $20 over all)

4 one Hour lessons (four of them) are $135 (saving you $25 over all)

8 one half hour lessons are $160 (saving you $80 over all)
8 one hour lessons are $240 (saving you $80 over all)

An additional $30 a lesson is added for "in home lessons" if you wish to have me come to you. (Your location must be in reasonable distance from the Fenway in Boston, and accessible by public transpertation)

What are the days/hours I can take lessons?
Monday-Friday 12-9PM

Bellow are answers to commonly asked questions:

Do you offer a "trial lesson"?
All first lessons are 50% off.

What is your cancelation policy?

Keep in mind this is my income- I have to pay my rent and bills. Please understand the ONLY way I can be fair to all my students is by applying these policies to everyone without exception.

-If you pay for each lesson individually and you don't show or cancel within 48 hours of the lesson I will expect you to pay for the missed lesson.
-If you pay in advance for four lessons cancel in no less than 24 hours of the lesson, otherwise I have to count the lesson as "being taught".
-If you pay in advance for eight lessons cancel in no less than 48 hours of the lesson, otherwise I have to count the lesson as being taught.

I desperately don't want to have to enforce this stuff in any way, so if you do miss a lesson PLEASE honer this agreement.

Of course if you're sick or have a genuine emergency I'm not going to add to your troubles by charging you for a missed/canceled lesson but I SINCERELY ask you to be honest about such things.

Some things that don't count as being sick or having a genuine emergency:
"I didn't have enough time to practice this week" "I'm busy at work" "I have a test tomorrow"...
You can of course cancel for reasons like this, but the lesson will be counted as being taught or you'll be expected to pay for it, so try to plan ahead.

Do you teach young children? Would you recommend your lessons for my child?

Yes, and ABSOLUTELY. The human brain learns quickest when we're young, so there is no better time to take music lessons than as a child. Music studies have proven time and time again to be profoundly beneficial for a child's development. Regardless of whether your child will pursue music professionally or not, he or she will benefit gratelly from music.

Why the guitar for my child?

For a number of reasons. The most cliche reason is the guitar carries a "sense of cool" with it that children are attracted to, and tend to have more fun with. It's an instrument you can play with others AND by yourself, which is not true of all instruments commonly taught in public schools. It's also a chordal instrument and over time this will spark deep musical theory conversation that will involve unique uses of mathematics.

What if I'm COMPLETELY new to music?

Music, on any technical level, can be broken down into two parts, pitch and rhythm. If you seriously lack in one or both of these areas we may devote portions of our classes to certain exercises. For recognizing pitch, we will do simple voice (singing) exercises (the quality of your voice is of absolutely no importance)... For rhythm we will use a metranome and try out many different exercises. Regardless of your level I will be committed to your progress.

Can you come to my home?

Yes, but for an additional fee. Please understand that I need to count traveling time (there and back) which usually means charging an additional $30. Your location must be accessible by T (subway) and/or bus and in reasonable distance from Allston. Most students choose to take lessons at my studio.

What style of music do you play and listen to?

My own music is a sort of modern jazz, fused with many different styles, including funk, rock, drum n' bass and others.
Listen HERE

When I'm hired to play for events and gatherings I play what is most suited for the event. Usually that means "strait ahead jazz", solo classical guitar, or rock/pop.

I listen to a lot of music... In jazz, some some of my favorites are, Kurt Rosenwinkel and John Coltrane. In folk, some of my favorite are Nick Drake and Bob Dylan. In Rock, some of my favorites are Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. In Blues, some of my favorites are B.B. King and Jack Johnson. In Classical, some of my favorite composers are Stravinski and Beethoven. Etc.

What do I need to bring?

For your first lesson all you need is a guitar. For additional lessons you'll be given a paper with required and recommended material. Required material shouldn't cost anymore than $20 combined.

Do we have to work on reading?

Yes, but it's up to you how much time is spent on it. It all depends on your interest and how hard you work. I've had trouble reading music all my life, I understand how difficult it can be, but I can't allow complete illiteracy. Keep in mind being able to read music can be an immeasurably useful skill.

How often are lessons held?

Students choose to take lessons every week or every other week. Occasionally a student might want to take lessons twice a week or only every few weeks.

Do you accept credit and/or debit cards?

Yes, but only on line using paypal and only for "block lessons". Contact me at ColinCannonMusic@hotmail.com for the link. (An additional 3% is added to cover transaction fees) There's no need to have a paypal account.

Do I have to play guitar to take music theory/harmony lessons?

No, but you must play an instrument and should know how to read music.

Do you give group lessons (2 or more people)?

Yes, but in general I don't recommend it. Because such personal attention is needed when studying an instrument, one on one lessons are typically best. However, if the students are more advanced it may not be as much of an issue.

Can I barrow a guitar during lessons?
Yes. Although I personally think it's best for each student to play on their own instrument, if needed you can barrow a guitar during lessons.

Or.... if you want to burn double bass patterns like Joey Jordison, or Terry Bozzio, we can move in that direction. My goal is to teach you what you need to know to play the stuff YOU want to play. I have two full acoustic drum sets, and a Yamaha DTX electronic set. A SONAR based digital recording system, and access to hundreds of instructional videos. Simply put, if you're into drums YOU WILL LOVE IT HERE !!!!!!!!
BEGINNERS:

If you're just starting out on the drums you probably have all kinds of ideas floating around in your head about perfoming, recording, and maybe even teaching.

GOOD !!!!!!!!!!

I'm here to help you sort through those ideas and focus your time and energy on what's important in drumming. We'll work on the basics and build a strong foundation for your playing.
Before you know it, you'll be doing things on the drumset you never thought you could do, and THAT'S AN AMAZING FEELING !!!

The key to progressing on the drums, or on any instrument, is to set goals and practice consistently to acheive them. Being a musician is kind of like being an athelete, and every athelete needs a good coach. I will work with you every week to help you achieve your goals and learn to play the way you always dreamed you could.
I have over 25 years of playing and teaching experience for you to tap into. I've studied with some of the great Boston-based drummers over the years including Bob Gullotti, Alan Dawson, Roberto Pettacia and Gary Chaffee, and I can share what I've learned from them. More importantly, I've played THOUSANDS of live performances, and I've done quite a bit of recording as well. We can use these experiences as tools to build a lesson program that will allow you to become the player you want to be. I promise it will be well worth the time and effort, and a lot of fun too !

Please visit www.atomicdrums.com to learn more. In the mean time, give me a call at 781-799-4101 to schedule a meeting so you can decide if Atomic Drums is right for you. I'm looking forward to talking to you !

Many Thanks,

If you cannot put to practice what you've studied, you haven't understood what you need to be doing or why.

If you haven't understood what you need to be doing, there were words in the explanation that you didn't understand. (Words like "tone", "note", "harmony", etc. can have several different meanings in music.)

Therefore the sequence of my method is:
1. You first learn what the musical words to be used in that topic mean;
2. Then you receive the explanation (theory) of that topic;
3. Then you learn the fingering or technics of that specific topic.
4. You're all set: you won't need to pay anyone to practice; you just practice till you can do it.

Following this procedure, I am able to guarantee results in any student.

And it makes learning: non-complicated, non-confusing and non-boring.

Price: $40 for 1 hour; $25 for 1/2 hour.

- Merve B., voice student

"My teachers are clearly passionate practicing musicians and also dedicated, enthusiastic instructors. They have done a great job of evaluating my existing musical knowledge and skills, identifying my needs and weaknesses, and helping me determine and articulate my objectives."

I have been working with students of various academic backgrounds for the last 7 years and prepared a special learning plan for each student according to his/her mathematic skills.
The goal of my lessons is to identify and strengthen the student's weak subjects and help him/ her achieve the highest grade possible by applying proven learning and motivation methods and reestablishing self confidence.

My technique relies on constant monitoring of the student's coursework and making sure the student always understands the material and takes an active part in the lessons. No long and irrelevant lectures here!

Apart from preparing you by teaching the relevant mathematic skills for the GRE, I also teach you how to ace the GRE exam by teaching specific aspects unique to the GRE.
Are you itching to sing with the violin? Whether you are a beginning or advanced player, or coming back to the instrument after a break, it is crucial to find the right teacher to guide your journey.

Having worked with violin students ages 7 to 75, I am convinced that, with patience and dedication, anyone can learn to play the violin – and have fun doing it! My lessons are tailored to each student’s unique physiology and musical aspirations. I emphasize aural awareness, balanced and tension-free physical set-up, and beautiful sound right from the beginning.

Private lessons and small-group classes are available at reasonable rates, at my home studio in Jamaica Plain, one block from Forest Hills T. I will not turn away a motivated student for lack of funds.

Interested students (or their parents!) can contact me at the email address above. Hear my playing and read more at: www.shawpong.com.
Thanks, and congratulations for choosing music!

My name is Scott Ouellette and I'm selling my first ebook for beginning guitar. The ebook is interactive, which means it has audio samples for everything taught in the book. The book takes you from the very beginning, what type of guitar to buy, what kind of strings to use, what size guitar, etc. It then covers some basic chords, and then strumming. It also covers the area of changing chords, which is always challenging to beginning guitarists. There's a chord library, and a section on single note playing. What makes this book unique, is in it's approach. I've spent over thirty years playing guitar. I first taught myself classical when I was around ten, then jazz guitar. I studied at Berklee in Boston, and currently I teach in studios and from home. My new approach to learning helps you to learn at an accelerated pace, and for only $15.00, you wont have to pay a teacher $30.00 + per hour. If you purchase this ebook, you are instantly granted unlimited email assistance by me. I will help you in any area you're having trouble with. If you have any further questions about the content of this new approach to learning guitar, feel free to contact me. Thank you, Scott

Learn How You Can Become A More Attractive College Candidate

What's the best way to improve your intellect and become an irresistible candidate for college?

Studying music is fun and life-changing, but it also improves thinking skills and positions you for success in any area of life.

According to a study conducted by physician and biologist Lewis Thomas, 66% of music majors who applied to medical school were admitted into their program - the highest percentage of any group.

Neuroscientists such as Daniel Levitin are convinced that studying music has a profound impact on brain function. As a result, colleges, universities and even employers think very highly of trained musicians. Showcasing a musical talent can be the distinguishing factor that sets you apart from your competition. When all you have to compete with is numbers, what sets you apart?

If you've always wanted to develop your instrumental abilities, now is your chance. Boston Music Dojo is offering professional instruction on all instruments. We will work with you. We will help you make your goals happen with as much or as little free time that you have to work with.
My students tell me what they want to learn and what style of music they want to play, and that's when the fun starts. My job is to give them the tools to learn as efficiently as possible (everyone is always busy, right?) and reap the rewards of playing an instrument as soon as possible. I offer solutions, advice, and never forget that music is meant to be fun, and not so serious.
I have worked as a tutor at Northeastern University in Boston, as well as being a teaching assistant for several undergrad math courses. More recently, I've tutored people all over NYC. I'm also a native English speaker (trust me, it's an important thing that's too often overlooked).

KAREN DE BIASSE - VOICE/GUITAR/PIANO/DRUMS/BASS/SONG WRITING/ARRANGING/EAR TRAINING/ETC - ANYONE CAN LEARN !!!

ALL INSTRUMENTS/ALL LEVELS
Anyone Can Learn To Sing Or Play Any Instrument
It is completely untrue that some people are "born to sing" while others are not. Using my method, the most "tone deaf" can learn to sing perfectly in tune, the most nasal or unappealing sound can be transformed into the most beautiful resonant tone, and someone with "no talent" can become better than anyone out there. With this superb method when you finish singing your voice will feel better than when you started! All it takes is desire, patience, perseverance, and above all, practice.

Breathing
My emphasis is to turn your body into an actual open, resonating, acoustic instrument. This is achieved by developing the correct singing posture, expanding the ribs and lungs, and developing the diaphram and singing muscles. An instrument only sounds as good as it's built, so by building your singing muscles in the correct way, everything improves.

All Styles
This method does not give you a style. You develop your own style, and bring the songs you want to work on. Pop, rock, hip-hop, alternative, country, progressive, blues, jazz, swing, broadway, folk, rap, r+b, gospel, hardcore, screaming at the top of your lungs (if you want to).

All Levels
There is no such thing as too old or too young to learn an instrument or anything. I teach everybody! Beginners to advanced, adults to elderly, children, kids, and pre-school. This method is for anyone who has the desire to improve and better their lives.

Vocal Therapist
My method is guaranteed to cure any and all vocal problems or damage you may have: nodules, pitch, tone, endurance, etc.

Sing with no break
Have a smooth, multi-octave range. Sing any note the way you like: high or low, hard or soft.

No end to how you can improve
As long as you practice using this method, there is no limit as to how you can improve your range, tone, strengh, flexibility, vibrato, phrasing, etc. Let me help you transcend fear, anxiety, and stage fright and replace it with technical ability and self-confidence.

Coaching and Stage Presence
We work on songs that the student brings with them to lessons. Using acting techniques, they understand the true meaning of the song and how to convey it to an audience.

Guitar Lessons - Anyone Can Learn How To Play The Guitar
Learn easily the basics of rhythm, notes and chords. Start with the basics and move into learning to play songs that you love. Incorporate learning to sing and play guitar on your favorite tunes. As the student becomes more confident the lessons move into learning advanced voicings, improvisational techniques and chord solos. All styles, all levels, all ages.

Piano Lessons - Anyone Can Learn How To Play The Piano
Whether you are a beginner or an advanced professional, any age is welcomed. Learning to play the piano can be lots of fun and very rewarding with practice, persistence and the proper instruction. Learn easily the basics of rhythm, notes and chords. In the first lesson you will be able to play with both hands. As you continue lessons it will be fun and exciting to learn to play popular piano pieces. The more advanced student will have fun learning to improvise and play chord solos.

Drum Lessons - Anyone Can Learn How To Play The Drums
Learning to play the drums is really easy and fun with my method! Start by learning how to hold the sticks and position yourself at a full drum set. At the end of the first lesson you will be able to play beats. With each lesson new beats, styles and exercises will be added. As you get more advanced the student can bring in songs they want to learn. This method is perfect and easy for any beginner or more advanced student.

Bass Lessons - Anyone Can Learn How To Play The Bass
The bass is what holds the rhythm of the band together and provides the foundation and bottom for the chord structure. The student is taken in a step by step method that is easy to understand starting with learning basic notes, rhythms and finger exercises. As the student becomes more advanced they can bring in songs that they would like to learn. All styles, ages and levels.

Ear Training
Developing your ear is essential for any serious musician. We start by learning to sing simple melodies and rhythms and as the student progresses move to more challenging ones. Also incorporated will be learning notation and chord and pitch recognition.

Song Writing
Learn to write songs like the pros. Karen DeBiasse has written over two hundred and fifty song. Let her expertise help you learn the secrets fast. We will work on song structure, theory and lyric writing.

Theory and Arranging
Karen DeBiasse is an honorary graduate of Berklee School of Music in Boston. There she acquired a degree in Jazz Composition and Arranging. She will teach you about notes, intervals, scales, chord structures and how chords work together. Also, you will learn how to arrange a song by adding drums, bass, guitar, horns, strings and whatever your heart desires.

You're 1st LESSON will be FREE when you sign up for your 1st MONTH!!!
I am a full time guitar instructor and performer with over 12 years of teaching experience in private instruction as well as in the classroom. I teach all styles (rock, pop, blues, jazz, classical, folk etc.) and all ages and levels (My students range from 6 all the way up to some that have been in their 60s).

It's a great time of the year for new students to sign up for guitar lessons. Time slots have been filling in fast though and there are only a couple left so make sure to sign up for a time soon if interested. As the Fall is here again people are looking to get out and start trying something new that enriches their life. And guitar lessons are a perfect way to do so by enjoying music. Even for the toughest of students, I can get you going with the basics of how to start making music on the guitar and playing the music you love. And for more experienced students, I can help you get past the sticking points in your playing that seem to keep you from going forward or help you with the challenges of music you want to learn but find too difficult on your own. My teaching studio is located on the first floor of a 2-family house just outside of Medford Sq. near Winchester and Malden. It is a very nice teaching space and there is a room connected to it for parents to wait and observe their children during lesson time. MY rates are $25 for a 1/2 hour and $50 for an hour.

You can contact me through this ad or at my cell phone number
(617)461-6542 and ask for Jon. Also, if you'd like to check out a bit
of what I play in my band you can go to www.bluetrainboston.com

I am a full time guitar instructor with over 13 years of teaching experience in the area. I teach students full time at my home studio and in the near by area and offer home lessons with my staff of Berklee and NEC graduates who work for me teaching GUITAR and PIANO. This will offer the very best in both quality and convenience and allow me to extend my services well beyond my home studio through some wonderfully gifted and experienced teachers on my staff. All ages, levels and styles are welcome.
SATURDAY LESSONS AVAILABLE AS WELL!!!

My name is Vod Hatch and I am a conditioning coach and can get you lean and fit. I am a former sparring partner and am a certified personal trainer. I train out of my private, well-equipped and clean studio in Lexington with a strong emphasis on cardiovascular conditioning. Each session lasts 60 minutes and the workouts are nonstop. The goal is to have you attain your highest possible conditioning. After all, the better your conditioning, the harder you can work out. The harder you can work out, the better you will look. One of the best investments you can make is in yourself.

Celebrities train hard and often and treat it like an investment, because for them it is an investment in their careers. Other people view training as an investment in their health and hope it will pay dividends later with a longer life and one of higher quality. If you plan for your retirement and invest wisely for your future, why not invest in your present to help you reach that future in better shape to enjoy it? Don’t be tomorrow smart and today foolish! Get into shape! It’s the smart thing to do!
You will never train harder or get a better result. Come and rediscover your inner athlete. Together we can get you looking fabulous and have lots of fun in the process. Try a free initial session and see if it is for you.

Here are some of the things you may do when training with me

- Running (indoors and out)
-	Jumping
-	Skipping rope
-	Punching focus pads
-	Hitting the heavy bag
-	Pushups
-	Crunches
-	Hill work
-	Weight work
-	Medicine ball work
