I am trying to put together a montage of true stories as a Father's Day gift to my boyfriend. I would like true stories briefly told to me where you are the adult child of a divorced home or one where your parents never married but one of them sought dissolution of their relationship.

I need to give him hope that his child will be able to live an "as decent as could be possible" life in these years leading up to that time, with his Dad always doing everything he can to ensure he is not alienated from his child's life, ever.

Not enough people realize how difficult life can be for fathers who were given less than a glance before being told that he is unable to have joint custody of his children. Therefore, I want to help in however ways I can to keep the hope that one day the courts will be fair to fathers who are decent and loving men to their child/ren, and that until then their unequivocal focus by maintaining as much contact with their child/ren as possible will still mean an, at the very least, a semi-decent life for their child/ren.

So, if you are like me or like the child/ren in the scenario above, please give your story, briefly is fine, and let me know how well you are turning out or have turned out.

Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan practitioners and enthusiasts will gather in the New England area for a peaceful retreat time, and to share ideas relating to Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan. We welcome all levels, including those who have not yet studied and wish to start learning Yang Style Tai Chi. Sifu West of Nashua and Amherst, NH will be teaching beginners the first part of the Yang Long Form throught the day.

When - Saturday September 20, 2008. From 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Where - This single day gathering will take place at All Saint's Episcopal Church in the center of Chelmsford, Massachusetts (shown in pictures).

The event will take place in a wonderful landmark stone building, with a recently renovated large hall (shown in picture above) for all of our practice needs. We will also have access to the outdoors for practice, as well as a nice tranquil courtyard for quite time (weather permitting). This event will have some teaching for beginners and some discussion, however the primary focus is to provide a considerable amount of free time to talk share with others and practice your Tai Chi Chuan in a friendly, peaceful environment.

Cost - $29 per person. This helps to pay for the cost of renting the facilities and other expenses. You will be responsible for your own breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. There are numerous places to eat and shop in the area. We will be within walking distance of down town Chelmsford, MA. You must be over 18 to attend. I'd like to start a Small Business Mastermind group. The purpose is for networking and for problem solving by bringing many minds to bear on your business challenges.

My plan is for this to be FREE. The last thing business owners need is another expense.

Here is the structure I have in mind:

1. No MLM, work-at-home, get-rich-quick garbage. Only REAL businesses with a retail location, office space, or tradesmen with a business license.

2. No competing members. It's going to be pretty tough to ask two competitors to share their best ideas - I can't see that working at all.

3. Every week (or two?) we would get together at one of our offices or even at a restaurant. We discuss our biggest challenges, exchange leads - and pick one member who will be the subject for the next meeting. The group will focus on that person's single largest issue and brainstorm solutions.

4. There has to be some commitment to regular attendance. People joining and then not showing up seems to be the bane of networking groups.

I'm open to ideas about how the structure would be formed - nothing is carved in stone.

Hi,
Recently I've been thinking about the subtle (and not so subtle) ways in which gender influence our everyday interactions and policies on a larger scale. I think that for whatever reason the value of friendships and networks between women has been overlooked, and that there's a lot to be gained by investing in them.

I'd like to create a group of women who are interested in exploring the ways in which gender is infused in our society, with the hopes that through raising our own awareness, we can find ways to promote change in our own lives and maybe more broadly.

I was thinking like a potluck dinner every 2-3 weeks, with members rotating in who organized the topic (e.g. work-family balance, body images, sexual violence, women in science, media portrayals of women, women in politics)--my agenda is mainly to get a productive dialogue going and find women who are interested in engaging around these topics. I think about these things fairly regularly and would love to hear the thoughts of others.

Please shoot me an e-mail if you'd be interested. I was thinking that we'd meet in the Harvard/Cambridge area, but I guess I'll see what makes sense based on responses.
