Since its inception three years ago, the project has yielded incredible results—a 400% increase in cities and towns that meet our basic criteria, as well as many that exceed it and qualify for distinction.

We’re looking for volunteers to help us with this review process in January. After attending a brief training session, you can work from our office in downtown Boston or from your own computer. The only prerequisite is an interest in improving the way government interacts with citizens.
Common Cause is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring open, accountable and effective government at the federal, state and local levels, in the interest of increasing public faith and participation in the political process. In Massachusetts, Common Cause has a long history of sustained issue campaigns advocating lobbyist reporting and disclosure; creating a state ethics commission and an inspector general’s position, as well as preventing the abolition of state watchdog agencies; opening the proceedings of the state legislature with television broadcasts; limiting PAC contributions, reforming campaign finance law, protecting citizen ballot initiatives, preventing polarization of the judicial branch, and reforming redistricting procedures.
